Stop the collapse of Honeybee colonies due to pesticides in the U.S.

Honeybees, which pollinate our crops are dying off because of pesticides that are threatening their survival. These pesticides are at supposed safe levels but seem to be harming the bees and as a result there has been seven species added to the endangered species list. Honeybees are extremely important to pollinate valuable crops so pesticide companies should be made aware of the damage it is causing to the bees. We have to urge them to create a more natural pesticide and make them aware of the importance of bees.

Honeybees, which pollinate our food crops which we all use to survive and which are an extremely important part of global economies, are dying off mainly due to the overuse of industrialized pesticides. The decline of honeybees was first observed around 20 years ago, however, the decline has become alarmingly low over the past 5 years and at this point in time the survival of all bees is in peril. These pesticides are at supposed safe levels but seem to be harming the bees and, as a result, there have been seven species added to the endangered species list. Honeybees are extremely important to pollinate valuable crops, so pesticide companies such as Bayer CropScience, should be made aware of the damage they are causing to the bees. We have to urge the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to convince Bayer CropScience, and Syngenta, to create a more natural pesticide, meaning one with no harmful chemicals that will kill bees, but on that will repel other insects.

In order to take action and save the honeybees, we must first evaluate the outcome of potential extinction. The extinction of honeybees will have a great affect on the world because, according to the Huffington Post, they are responsible for pollinating a third of America's crops. Honeybees are crucial for the pollination of crops and flowers that other species rely on for survival. These tiny insects play a very important role in agriculture so it is important that we urge pesticide companies to consider changing the chemicals they use. The pollination of crops is so important that in China they have begun to mechanically pollinate crops, which means they do it by hand. That requires intense labor and with the amount of people who rely on such crops, it would be merely impossible to do in the United States. That is why urging pesticide companies to stop using harmful pesticides is more than important.

Pesticides affect bees in many ways. One way is when the pesticide is sprayed onto the plant, bees then crawl over areas that have been sprayed and the pesticide damages the bees ability to navigate. Other pesticides that are in the soil get absorbed by the plant, thus harming the bee in a similar way. Pesticides might be important when it comes to repelling other insects but we need bees.

We might not be a huge fan of bees because they sting us, but what are we going to do when our plants start dying or when our food supply is running low?  We need to find a solution that will protect our agriculture and our bees. Because, after all, they can make or break our agriculture because, without them, we would not have fruits or vegetables.

It is crucial that we sign a petition to make Bayer CropScience and Syngenta see what their actions are doing to these precious bees. A simple solution would be changing the chemicals used to keep bugs away. The EPA has already ensured that pesticides are not being sprayed near bees, but it will take more than that to save the colonies. It is important that they know what can happen to our fruits and our vegetables when the pollinators are no longer available to pollinate. Every single signature gets us closer to saving these colonies of honeybees.
