Quebec: Protect Old Growth Forest on Mont Kaaikop

Mont Kaaikop is a majestic Laurentian mountain an just over an hour from Montreal. This area is home to centuries-old, untouched forest. It is home to exceptional ecosystems and habitat for countless animals.

However, for the second time in five years, it is being threatened by logging. The government of Quebec has already authorized deforestation in the area but local activists have, so far, kept the chainsaws at bay.

Mont Kaaikop is one of the last vestiges of untouched forest in the region and deserves protection. Not only should the government revoke authorization to clearcut, but the area should be designated a protected area so that this threat is gone forever.

The majority of the local residents are opposed to the project and know it would hurt not only the natural beauty but their economic prosperity from ecotourism.

Local activists from Mohawk and Quebec communities are working tirelessly to protect the area. They need your help to amplify their voices and let Quebec know that this area is worthy of protection.
