Nuclear waste is hazardous to the environment and most forms of life. It is normally regulated by government agencies in order to protect humans and the environment. However, providing such nuclear reactors and storage facilities can be subjected to changes in the weather and elements that may cause the toxins to surface, reaching a large number of humans and other life forms. It can also somehow seep into the water supply which could be catastrophic. Such nuclear facilities have been proposed for Cumbria and Sellafield in England although geologists speculate is unsuitable for underground radioactive material.
Plans to proceed with a nuclear reactor or storage facility in Cumbria County were rejected at the end of January with some hesitation from experts who want to consider the area. Investigations and discussions on the decision presented many social and economic implications, not to mention possible hazards and dangers with a nuclear reactor or storage facility in the area. Many were pleased with the ultimate decision that"Cumbria is not the best place geologically in the UK and the government's efforts need to be focused on disposing of the waste underground in the safest place, not the easiest.”
Officials are now considering pushing through Sellafield as a site for the nuclear facility. These plans are also meeting with much debate. A spokesman for geophysics states that “burying radioactive waste in land around Sellafield was "irresponsible and dangerous.” It is manifestly unsuitable," he said. "Studies suggest there could be leaks in as little as 50 years, when the material needs to be held for between 100,000 and 1m years." Maybe more efforts should go into sources of renewable energy rather than the hazardous effects of nuclear reactors and storage!

Geologists of Cumbria and Sellafield, England – You need to give much more thought to the hazards involved in building a nuclear reactor and storage facility in your areas. You could literally be putting a vast number of lives in danger by doing so. The plans were originally rejected; do not reconsider and present these hazardous conditions for all the humans and other life forms in the area!
