People should sign this petition because Fischer blvd in Toms River NJ has been plagued with motor vehicle accidents for too long now. Many motorist are using Fischer Blvd as cut through from Hooper Ave to Rt.37( and many other roads). The speed limit needs to be lowered to increase the safety of the public and lower the chances of more accidents.
According to the State of New Jerey Public Safety Division of State Police in the 21 counties that make up NJ. Ocean County ranks 3rd in crashes (47), 3rd in victims killed in crashes (52), 2nd in pedestrians being killed by crashes (16) and 1st in pedalcyclist (3) being killed by motorist. This information was compiled by the Fatal Accident Investigation Unit within the Division of State Police. Our county roads rank 2nd in fatal crashes. The current speeds posted are too fast for the conditions. Lowering the speed limit to 35 MPH would only increase travel time by one to one and a half minutes if you traveled the entire lenght of Fischer Blvd. Is this too much of an incovience to ask to save lives and incresae the safety of the public ? This is why I am asking you to consider and sign this petition.
