Tell Hospital Not to Deny a Kidney Transplant Because of Mental Disability!

A doctor at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia denied Amelia, who is two years old and has Wolf-Hirschorn Syndrome, a kidney transplant solely based on her mental disability. Wolf-Hirschorn Syndrome occurs in every 1 in 50,000 people and is a genetic condition, symptoms of which include a specific facial appearance, delayed growth, intellectual ability, and development, and seizures.

Amelia's mom, Chrissy Rivera, wrote in a blog post that doctors told them Amelia would need a kidney transplant in 6 months to a year. Shortly after, a doctor told her and her husband, Joe, that Amelia wasn't "eligible" (even with a family donor) because she is mentally retarded.

Tell the hospital not to deny Amelia this life saving medical procedure just because of her mental disability!

Dear Children's Hospital of Philadelphia,

One of your doctors just denied two-year-old Amelia, who suffers from Wolf-Hirschorn Syndrome, a life saving kidney transplant solely because of her mental retardation.

It is a human rights violation to not give Amelia access to the same procedure that someone without an intellectual disability would have access to. Please allow Amelia to have the procedure.
