Makeup Brushes Need A Category Home

Target:
Etsy Admin
The mineral makeup sellers and buyers on Etsy.com are fed up with the lack of answers regarding whether or not selling makeup brushes is 'legal' per Etsy guidelines.

A seller get flagged. Admin answers. With a less than thrilling response. The next week the same seller gets flagged again. Seller questions the flag. Admin either doesn't answer at all or changes their previously given answer to something more bizarre.

By being indecisive on this issue you're only hurting yourself, Etsy. Makeup is big business.

By being indecisive on this issue you're only hurting yourself, Etsy. Makeup is big business.

We the undersigned have begun this petition in hopes you will understand the frustration of the mineral makeup buyers and sellers concerning makeup brushes.

During the second week in June a thread was started in the forum calling attention for the need of Admin to resolve the issue of which category would be the proper place to list makeup brushes and also the proper listing format.

There has been no resolution thus far. The result of which is mass confusion and angst on the forum and also in the makeup sellers' shops.

We need an answer, Etsy.

We want to follow the rules. We want to continue to support the wonderful venue Etsy is. But if there are no clear lines drawn in how to go about doing the right thing then makeup sellers will continue to be flagged. This category/listing format issue has apparently caused so much confusion that Admins are telling various sellers different things.

We need clear communication that the issue has been resolved so that we can move forward.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to our concerns.

What is the difference between a makeup artist's brush and a canvas artist's paintbrush? There is no difference. But Etsy apparently needs to be convinced of this.

If I am purchasing mineral make-up, I want to be able to purchase the appropriate brush to use with my new make-up and I believe that mineral make-up sellers should be allowed to include them in their stores and have a special category for them.

This doesn't make any sense if there are paintbrushes for sale on Etsy. As long as it listed as a supply, I don't even see the hesitation in allowing makeup sellers to sell brushes, it is helpful to the buyer as well who doesn't have to take the time or spend the gas money going to a large retailer.

I think that selling make-up brushes by them selves as a commercial supply is no different than the seller that is selling bubble mailers, or beads, or any other crazy "supply", etc.. If I were to purchase a powder make-up on Etsy, I would want the brush included, or at least the option to buy it. If you buy make-up at the store, the applicator comes with it, so why should Etsy be different? Just my opinion, and yes...I do have one!! ;)

Why the silence on this very simple topic? Etsy please give your make-up sellers more respect, allow make-up brushes and stop being so difficult! What is the difference between a makeup artist's brush and a canvas artist's paintbrush? There is no difference. But Etsy apparently needs to be convinced of this.

Etsians who sell makeup should definitely be able to sell make up brushes without having to embellish them 'just enough' to make the 'altered.' ~ jumpsonbeds

Makeup sellers need to be able to sell the proper equipment for applying their makeup. Buyers need to be able to purchase said equipment. What more do you people need to know?? Seriously.

I'm so baffled about why this is such a complicated issue. If you need a brush to apply the product, it should be available in the shops where the product is sold.

I have to have a brush to apply mineral makeup. Etsy is making some sellers decorate their brushes in order to sell them on Etsy (just some sellers, not all). This is ridiculous -- an example of handmade fascism. Just let sellers sell makeup brushes, okay?

Mineral Makeup is a relatively new arena, and it is exceedingly competitive. As a consumer of such products, I have to say that the inability to include the very tools necessary to apply the products only makes it harder, if not impossible, for sellers on Etsy to compete with everyone else. If the goal of Etsy is, in part, to make handmade items as competitive as mass produced items, this is just tying the hands of yr makeup sellers. Please resolve it soon. Thank you so much for providing a wonderful forum for all of us artisans, and help us help you make it even better.

As a mineral makeup seller, i really just want to follow the rules of Etsy, and abide by my mission statement- bring women the knowledge and tools they need to look and feel their best. Without knowing the rules, i can't abide by them- so please admin, just give us a clear, universal answer!

They are necessary supplies for applying the makeup purchased from Etsy sellers. Those selling the makeup should be allowed to sell the brushes.

A Paintbrush and a Cosmetic Brush are exactly the same. They are made with the same technique and should be allowed.

As a future buyer of handmade mineral makeup, and as a buyer and seller who wants to obey etsy rules and support sellers who also do this, I want to know how makeup brushes can be listed. I want to hopefully see a resolution that may encourage makers of handmade brushes to come in, while allowing sellers of makeup to sell commercial, hand altered OR handmade brushes in their shop with or without makeup, as long as they are legitimate sellers of makeup.

There is no difference between a cosmetic brush and a paintbrush, save for semantics. Semantics should not cause this much upheaval.

I would love to see brushes offered by the wonderful and talented Etsy make-up sellers. I have spent way too much money on brushes at Chanel, Sephora and elsewhere, and I would rather funnel those dollars to the hard-working and deserving Etsyans (and, well, of course, Etsy too!). Thanks for your quick resolution of this issue for the countless sellers AND buyers of makeup and other bath and body products on Etsy!
