Animal Cops in Greece

The unspeakable crimes towards other creatures around us are only half of the story.

The real issue is our indifference to them.

This is the substance of inhumanity.

Jeremy Bentham (1748-1832) said:  "the question is not if the animals have logic, or if they can speak, but if they suffer%u2026Why should the law refuse its protection to any sensitive being?  The time will come when humanity will extend its mantle over everything which breathes..."

Greek Law 2017 (1992): .."No one should pointlessly make an animal suffer or cause it distress.   No one should abandon a domestic animal.."

The Animal Welfare Association Humaira, promotes the Ministry of Interior (Public Order), the Ministry of Development and local and other relevant bodies to request the creation of police departments and municipal police, with the sole purpose of prosecuting and combating violence against animals. Asking for authority to create divisions in the larger cities of Greece, which will aim to prevent and combat crimes against animals.

We are requesting that departments for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals be created in the large cities in Greece.  In addition, we ask that people who commit these crimes against animals be prosecuted by the governing agencies of the police.

Perhaps many will say that it is impossible to create a police animal, but one must be the beginning. Of course it is not easy. It needs much work and great effort, but with the assistance of the world I believe that we can do.

The next step is to create a 24 hour animal shelter, so that all the incidents the police will handle the animals to come to the shelter for care. The shelter will be veterinarian and staff for emergencies. It is a shelter that will operate 24 hours a day, to be able to provide assistance when needed and not specific times.

Greece has finally reached the hour where at last it is beginning to replicate the models of other more developed countries in the opposition of the State to the cruel treatment of animals.

Together, we will mobilize and be linked together in order to change the way we confront the mindless people who find satisfaction in harming defenseless animals.

The hour has come to consider the bad character that we invent about the animals, with the apathetic attitude that we persist in, when we see or hear about these incidents of violence.

Even a signature can make the difference. Come together with us and link your voice with ours, so that we can change and better the conditions and the lives of the animals in our country.
