Target:
FARM ANIMALS ABUSE
Sponsored by:

PETITION TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS
TO STRENGTHEN ANIMAL TRANSPORTATION REGULATIONS

WHEREAS regulations for the transport of animals under Canada's Health of Animals Act are outdated and in need of revision;

WHEREAS ruminants (cattle, sheep and goats) may be legally transported 52 hours (in addition to a pre- and post- boarding food withdrawal period) with no access to water, food or rest, and monogastric animals (pigs,poultry and horses) may be transported 36 hours (in addition to a pre-boarding food withdrawal time) with no access to water, food or rest;

WHEREAS these allowable transport times are among the longest in the industrialized world, and are not consistent with scientific findings on animal welfare during transport;

WHEREAS animals that become injured or diseased during transport threaten the quality, health and safety of Canadian food products;

We, the undersigned citizens of Canada, petition the House of Commons to amend the animal transport regulations under Canada's
Health of Animals Act to be consistent with the findings of the EU Scientific Committee on Animal Health and Welfare, to reduce transport time for pigs, poultry, horses, calves and lambs to 8 hours, and 12 hours for cattle, sheep and goats, and ensure adequate enforcement of the regulations. We ask that the amendments be passed quickly.

There was a documentary aired on the French television station, Radio-Canada, on February 21st, 2008, called ''Enquête''. The program was a description of the conditions in which animals are treated  before and during transport to slaughterhouses. Those who can stand to see the program can go to :http://www.radio-canada.ca/actualite/v2/enquete/archive209_200802.shtml.

You can also go on the Animals Angels site: http://www.animals-angels.com/ to see the work this international team has been doing in order to change the inhuman conditions in which animals are being transported.

There is an international outcry about the way animals are being transported to slaughterhouses and there is a need to change the laws.

It is timely to send as many petitions as possible to change these laws.

Petitions will be sent to: Canadian Coalition for Farm Animals, 213-33 Hazelton Avenue, Toronto, ON, M5R 2E3

Thank you for helping!

Le transport tel qu'il est est un torture, et transporter des animaux vivants est aussi une aberration économique. Je souhaite que l'énergie augmente beaucoup, beaucoup, ces horreurs cesseront. En attendant que l'on fasse pression pour que cela cesse

I don't eat meat, but I remember when I did and why I stopped. I simply couldn't support killing animals anylonger. What goes on in the meat industry is simply horrible, and I feel a huge pain for these innocent creatures, who suffer so terribly, and end their lives in fear and pain, so that humans can eat their flesh. Someday, mankind will look back at his meat eating, animal abusing and animal killing ancestors, with discust and disrespect.

The best way of avoiding sufferings in these poor animals is not to eat them. It is necessary to close the slaughterhouses which are only places of extermination of mass of animal beings.

Really? I love just taking the chickens and shooting them repeatedly with a shotgun from a far distance so they slowly die from being pelted with HOT, BURNING lead pellets. GTFO. Chickens have no pain receptors. Only instinctive reactions.
