The average person's grooming routine brings them into contact with 126 different toxic chemicals each day. -The Environmental Working Group

Ban Chemicals from Cosmetics and Personal Care Products!

Target:
Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House
Sponsored by:

Most Americans do not know the truth... that there is little to no government regulation concering the chemical-laced products we are using on ourselves and our children.  Many do not realize there are over 884 known chemical toxins in their shampoos, deodorants, and cleaning products.  They do not know what the ingredients listed on the back of the bottle actually are...especially ingredients listed as other and fragrance...and manufacturers are not required to tell them! They do not understand that just by putting on lotion every day they are increasing their risk of cancer because of the chemical parabens and dozens of other toxins in their product.  The multi-billion dollar cosmetic, cleaning, and chemical industries are working over time to keep Americans in the dark.

Acceptable Levels?, a feature length film, in conjunction with learned scientists, doctors, and experts in the field, will reveal the truths about the toxins in our environment.  Visit the Acceptable Levels? website at www.acceptablelevelsmovie.com to find out more about the truth concerning the products you are using every single day, and sign our petition to make cosmetics and personal care product manufacturers responsible for their actions and help increase safety regulations and testing of products before they are sold to you and me!

We the undersigned would like to bring to your attention a form of chemical warfare that is affecting every single American in our nation.  Chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects and other adverse health effects do not belong in products we use in and on our bodies. Major loopholes in federal law allow the $50 billion cosmetics industry to put unlimited amounts of virtually any chemical into personal care products with no required safety assessment or adequate labeling requirements.

In 2008, the list of High Production Volume Chemicals (according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) ) included 4,843 substances and only an estimated 7% have had the safety testing suggested by the OECD.  This is unacceptable that there are little to no government regulation concerning the cosmetics and personal care products we are using on ourselves and our children every day.

We, the undersigned, call on our representatives in Congress to protect our health by:

Taking immediate action to phase out the most hazardous cosmetics ingredients on the U.S. market, and

Empowering the FDA, CDC and EPA to regulate cosmetic ingredients and products before they reach store shelves to ensure their safety.

Thank you for taking the time to examine our cause and consider our requests.  We look forward to the positive change you will bring about.

We receive enough chemicals into our bodies through our water, food, drinks and we do not need to add more poisons into our bodies.

Water is a chemical, this type of tripe is scare mongering and totally negative. Our industry is controlled almost to the same degree as medicines. In Europe we have the Cosmetics Directive and in the USA you are strictly regulated by your own laws. So please grow up or at least learn a little chemistry and a great deal of toxicology and skin physiology before going into print. The ingredients are labelled and the product has to have a complete safety assessment and Product Information Pack (PIP) before you are allowed to place it in the market.

These chemical toxins should be listed and where they are taken from.

I want to know whats in my personal care items. I use them everyday on the largest organ of my body--my skin!! I want to know what my skin is absorbing and I should have the right to know!!! I have the right to know what I am putting on my children's skin as well--the most precious skin!! We need safety regulations that are third-party and we need to hold the personal care product manufacturers responsible for what they are selling us!!!!

Treat Your Pet as a true member of your family. Frozen Woofys are an all organic "people grade" treat for your dog. Also, the packaging is made of bio-compostable corn plastic-no petroleum involved. We support this organizations mission.

Many substances allowed in personal care products have strict guidelines for handling in the manufacturing plant such as protective clothing, gloves, masks, and goggles; yet we use large amount of these products unknowingly. My family has had many skin and neurological problems and many of these chemicals have contributed or may be soley responsible for these problems. Without a science degree or making it a full-time job, I find it very difficult to both determine which substances are toxic, and to find safe alternatives. Toxins are a leading source of cancer and a variety of health conditions. If we do not ban harmful substances, we must at least label them and give consumers the right to an informed decision. We are poisoning ourselves without knowledge. While our bodies may be able to deal with small amounts of these chemicals, it is a serious problem if almost all the products we use contain them. Suddenly, we are not talking about trace amounts, but large quantities.

Having Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, I certainly am concerned about all chemicals! Please stop using them in cosmetics and personal care products.
