Broad Ripple Ave is scheduled to be repaved in 2009. The current plan does not take into account bike lanes or improved pedestrian ways. Green Broad Ripple (a local non-profit community organization) will soon be approaching the city and request to 1.) delay sending out the construction bids, 2.) to review the current design, and 3.) to consider incorporating bike lanes and enhanced pedestrian ways. Signing the petition below will show the city that people are truly interested with incorporating bike lanes in Broad Ripple.

We, the undersigned, request a review of the design for the rework of Broad Ripple Ave (project 9981080) between Keystone and College Avenues prior to the bidding process in order to determine the feasibility of accommodating bicycle lanes and pedestrian ways within the scope of the project.
We signed the "Bike Lanes For Broad Ripple Avenue, Indianapolis, IN" petition!

Bike and pedestrian lanes on Broad Ripple Ave would be very helpful. This is a pathway to the Monon Trail and therefore gets much bike and pedestrian traffic. I recxently rode on the north side of Broad Ripple Avenue. The sidewalk is in need of repair and difficult to ride on. This area has much pedestrian traffic and really needs accessibility for bike and pedestrian. If there is re-suirfacing this is the time to make the change.
Thanks

i always admire the bike lanes in chicago and seattle. additionally, i would argue that they only help merchants on the street.

It is crucial that BR Ave. be made into a "complete street" that accommodates bikes, pedestrians and transit when construction is undertaken in 2009. It would be a shame to lose the opportunity. This could be a model project to inspire similar undertakings throughout the city. If the City is serious about implementing SustainIndy's bike lane component, then start with BRAVE. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity and we should not waste it.

It would be a shame if Broad Ripple did not include a bike lane in its new plan. I love biking but find it very dangerous to ride in Broad Ripple. People move to that area for the neighborhood feeling. Having bike lanes would only enhance the community.

I love to get exercise, enjoy fresh air, save money, and cherish the Earth by biking and pulling a trailer with my two children, but I get very nervous pulling the kids in traffic. I would love to be able to bike with them from my home east of Glendale to Broad Ripple Park or the Farmers' Market!

To Whom It May Concern: Please take into account that more and more people are biking to work, to extra curricular activities, to shop and so forth. By taking the time to create bike paths, we protect those citizens and protect the environment.

This would not only help commuters and pleasure cyclists but also students at the high school. My family and I like to cycle to Broad Ripple for a meal, but it's tough when you come from the east.

I often ride my bike from our neighborhood Clifton on the River to Broadripple to shop and dine. If there were bike lanes I would feel safer and my friends would more likely bike as well.

I often ride from the Art Museum area up the Canal toward Broad Ripple. I feel very safe on the Canal leading up to Broad Ripple, but once I hit Broad Ripple I feel like I am taking a major leap of faith. Improving this area's bike safety would do so much for quality of life.

I often ride with my kid's from the monon to Broad Ripple park and currently that is a scary experience. We would probably utilize the park more if there were bike lanes that could get us there a little safer. Thanks!

When we rode the Monon and went through Broadripple business district it was narrow and very busy on the street. It would encourage others to use alternate means of transportation if the roads were improved when being repaved.

Indianapolis is consistently at the bottom of the list when it comes to public transit and health/wllness. Let's make it easier and safer for people to access alternative modes of transit and get a little exercise at the same time.

Not making bike lanes a part of any plan is a mistake and will hamper the quality of life in the beltway. With kids, safety is an issue and this is critical to that and to ensure our neighbors don't continue to flee to the suburbs nor reduce the attractiveness of our neighborhoods to outsders wanting to buy our homes.
