We, the undersigned, support Supervisor Loftus and the Grosse Ile Township Board for making Grosse Ile a safe place for children.  We urge the Township to stand strong against the hostile voices, who want to endanger children by asking this Township to send back the grant received for the Safe Routes to School Project.    These hostile voices do NOT speak for the majority of residents.

We represent a community that nurtures and protects its children-who care about CHILD SAFETY and know that this project will benefit the children and all who reside on Grosse Ile.

We are speaking up in support of CHILD SAFETY, Safe Routes to School, and for all the efforts to enrich this beautiful community that will come from going forward with this project.

Thank you for listening to our concerns and your continued efforts to ensure that Grosse Ile's children have a safe and prosperous future.

Sidewalks near schools is critical to the safety of children. I grew up in a community with sidewalks on every block. I think that every community should have the safety of their children as a top priority, and providing sidewalks is a great way to display this commitment.

I would love to have sidewalks on Hawthorn Glen. Not having a sidewalk also causes concern for drivers. Do we need some tragic accident first?

As a child I went to Grosse Ile schools from kindergarden to 2nd grade. I moved to Riverview and then attended Memorial Elementary until 5th grade. I lived about three streets away from the school. All of my siblings, friends and myself would walk delightfully to school. It was an adventure, we of course had sidewalks. It would have been a shame if these were not available because no parent in their right mind would allow a child to walk in a street to any location. My point is a child with the opportunity to enjoy a brisk walk in the morning, and then in the afternoon to and from school was a great exprience. After 5th grade I return to Grosse Ile and continued my education there until I graduated in 2006, I still think about those walks to school and the fun my siblings and I shared. I strongly support the construction of these sidewalks because I have first hand exprience of the delight to walk to elementary school.

Objectively speaking- how can you be against sidewalks? The positives far outweigh the negatives- come on people- think about the community and the children.

To all of the concerned citizens in favor of sidewalks and do not live on those streets affected, "why don't you volunteer to have the sidewalks placed in your front yard?" Why aren't they placing sidewalks on Rucker or Lake? This is a narrowly focused and biased petition and is typical of the way that the SR2S group has presented itself. THE MOST UNSAFE AREAS ARE THE SCHOOLS THEMSELVES, THE PROJECT NEEDS TO START AT THE SCHOOLS WITH STOPLIGHTS TO CONTROL TRAFFIC AND ALLOW CHILDREN THE OPPORTUNITY TO CROSS STREETS WITHOUT BEING HIT BY CARS OR BUSSES! LOOK AT THE SCHOOLS IN ANY OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICT. THERE ARE TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND SPEED LIMIT SIGNS CONTROLLING TRAFFIC DURING THE PEAK SCHOOL HOURS. THIS IS WHERE WE NEED TO START. BEFORE YOU COMMENT ASK QUESTIONS SO YOU UNDERSTAND THE ENTIRE ISSUE, NOT JUST WHAT YOU ARE BEING LED TO BELIEVE. TOM, WE COULDN'T AGREE WITH YOU MORE WE DIDN'T GET ENOUGH MONEY FOR THE PROJECT. SO MUCH MORE IS NEEDED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR OF SUPPORT OF SAFE ROUTES.
