Community Center for Mawatan/Aberdeen Township, NJ

Community Center for Mawatan/Aberdeen Township, NJ

Target:
Aberdeen Township Council
Sponsored by:

Recent reports state the first hour after dismissal has the highest crime rate for school age children.  Gangs are on the rise in Monmouth County.  Single Working Parent population is on the increase.  Childhood obesity is a serious health concern.

We need to have a safe haven for our children.  For this reason Husky Sports (501 © (3) ) a non-profit organization supports the idea of building a community center.  We are looking to include: an ice rink, wall climbing, golf/batting cages, basketball/volleyball courts, running/walking track, pool, meeting rooms and fitness center

The community center will:

Accommodate a multitude of Youth, Senior and Interscholastic sports

(i.e. ice hockey, swimming, volleyball and basketball)

Monthly Family Night

Meeting Rooms (i.e. corporate events, special events)

Party Facilities

Activities for Senior Citizens

Fitness Facility

A Self-sustaining venue (no tax dollars)

Husky Sports would greatly appreciate your support for this project.  We do have the support and cooperation of our elected officials spearheaded by Mayor David Sobel.  However, we as a community need to let them know that a community center is just what our town needs.  Congressman Frank Pallone has earmarked money for our feasibility study, which will assist in moving this project forward.

I agree with this idea whole-heartedly. I lived in the town of Matawan for the first 16 years of my life, and the last 4 have been just over a parkway bridge in Cliffwood. There is no where for the kids to go hang out in this town, which results in the vandalism, drugs, and other things of that nature. Giving them somewhere to go, and something to do will get them away from the behavior of today. I would like to suggest a football/soccer field, and possibly a wall on the building where kids could be encouraged to graffiti. Nothing vulgar, but the way I see it, if you tell the kids today they aren't allowed to do it, they will. Tell them, your a part of this town too, leave your mark, they'll respond a little better.

My husband and I grew up in Point Pleasant, NJ and we always had a Recreation Center that we could ride our bikes to. We have so many great memories of the activities we were involved in there, and we still drive by there when we visit. When we moved to Matawan in 1996 we were very disappointed that there was nothing like this for our children. This community center is exactly what our children need and we support it 100%.

We need this building to be built for the children of our town. It is our duty to provide the children a safe environment to grow in. They are the future of not only our town, but our nation.

I live in Marlboro Township, but within 1/2 mile of Marlboro/Matawan/Aberdeen intersection, so I spend much time in Aberdeen and Matawan. I'd be happy to share the experience that Marlboro has with it's Marlboro Recreation Center, which is always in use and very popular (they just added a Dog Park). I know the folks their and can get them to share info also. I'm surprised that Matawan and Aberdeen don't have similar facility for the entire community to use.

A community center would provide residence with something positive to do with free time . This is extremely important to young people as they need alternative things to do , besides drugs and drinking . I feel so strongly about this that I would build it myself if I could . When I was a young man growing up in Brooklyn , I had the Boys club that kept me off the streets . This would be the single most important development to the future of our area .

As always, it is paramount that we put the children of Matawan-Aberdeen as priority. Building a community center gives kids the opportunity to be part of an environment that can provide various support, education, and an increase in overall wellness, all while keeping them away from negative influences. I thoroughly support this movement.

Great Idea. Finally a place were kids can go. I grow up here in Matawan/Aberdeen and i can truly say there was no place to hang out after school unless you were involved in school sports. I now have and 8 yr boy that is always looking for something or somewhere to go were there would be other kids. besides a birthday party. this would be a great place i really hope it happens

I care for my grandchildren who live in Aberdeen, NJ and believe that this center would be beneficial to them, as well as all the other children there.

This would be a wonderful addition to this town. It would give the children a healthy place to gather. I wish they had done something like this twenty-five years ago!
