Commute the Death Sentence of Romell Broom

Target:
Governor of Ohio: Ted Strickland

Petition To Commute the Death Sentence of Romell Broom

We, the undersigned, together with the family and friends of Romell Broom, urge Governor Strickland to commute Broom's death sentence. Broom was sentenced to death in 1985 for aggravated murder. His trial was constitutionally ineffective since it failed to conduct a thorough investigation into his dysfunctional and traumatic childhood, which included parental drug and alcohol abuse, exposure to physical violence, inconsistent forms of discipline, his forced dropping out of school in 10th Grade to care for his younger siblings, as well as his reaction to the shooting death of one of his childhood friends. His counsel could not advocate effectively for him since the state trial judge unreasonably denied Broom continuance until these mitigating factors could be documented and presented to the jury.

Romell Broom's sentence should be commuted.

Action petitioned for: We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge Governor Strickland to commute the sentence of Romell Broom to life without parole.

Would suggest that they would have to commutate him the penalty by another , the penalty of death had to be executed in the due date, and that the fulfilled with the state when accessing to the same, think that it would have to go to another trial in where decide with the extenuating of the case

I am doing a paper for my class on death row inmates. I haven't even been close to the system but it is revolting to me that anyone should have to die in a modern state. WHY WHY WHY WHY Please. Please Please. America is a dream. Please do not kill. Please

Dear Governor, As a docter I am taught to preserve life. Nothing shall be gained in executing Romell Broom. I believe that because of his failed execution he should be allowed to live. This botched execution was obviously a sign that this man was not ready to die. Please let him live! I know he was convicted of a horrible crime, but executing this man won'tbring justice to the victim or her family. Yours Truly Sara Bower

The circumstances surrounding the failed execution of Mr Broom raise a strong argument in favour of commuting this man's sentence. The State made a prolonged attempt to carry out the death sentence, and succeeded in merely placing the prisoner in an agonising situation. In the circumstances, it would appear to be cruel and unbefitting of a civilised country for another attempt to be made to take his life.

While I respect the justice suatem I so nor believe that a man should serve 25 years and still face he death penalty. Ohio, is he serving a life sentence or a death penalty? I feel remorsful for the experience Romell encountared on the first attempt of his execution due to the incompetence of Ohio state officials. While I do not condone the crime the sentence is unfair.

Dear Mr. Governor. The failed execution of Romell Broom is cruel. Even during our cruel French Revolution the one not being executed whatsoever was released ! The judges were considering that he had a 2nd chance for life. Please, commute his sentence and at least, if not for the law do it as a Christian. With best regards

There is no justification whatsoever for the violent and horrific acts committed by Romell Broom. Mitigation changes very little. Nevertheless, the treatment he has recieved at the hands of a so called civilised nation makes my skin crawl with fear and repulsion. You are no different and no better than the people you kill, except perhaps, for the suits that you wear.

In light of Francis v. Resweber, executing Romell Broom would be unconstitutional.
