Lucas the Husky in TN asks that you contact the DA and ask for justice. Upgrade the charges to a Class E Felony!

Demand Justice for Lucas, Pure Bred Husky Horribly Abused by Owner!

Target:
District Attorney Lisa Zavagiannis, McMinnville, TN

Animal advocates in Tennessee are DEMANDING that FELONY charges be filed against Christopher Lee Barnett, owner of Lucas the 2 year old pure bred Siberian Husky.  Barnett was observed by his neighbor viciously beating the dog unconscious.  The neighbor investigated, said the dog appeared dead, but actually was unconscious and bleeding from the mouth.  The neighbor swore out a warrant against Barnett for the brutal attack and the local humane society took custody of Lucas.

Read this website for more info!

The humane society had Lucas examined by a local veterinarian.  The results of that examination were horrific, telling the story of previous abuse and cruelty.  Thirty of his teeth had been filed down to the gumline and even worse!  The veterinarian commented that Lucas had to have been semi-conscious or unconscious to endure that much dental damage.

Barnett is a farrier (horseshoer) by trade, and it has been speculated that Barnett used a wood rasp or hoof rasp to do this damage to Lucas' teeth.  The nerves in the teeth were exposed  and Lucas had to be in intense pain.

Sadly, Barnett is charged only with a misdemeanor at present.  Animal advocates want to see the charges upgraded to a Class E Felony, Aggravated Animal Cruelty, under Tennessee Code Annotated (TCA) 39-14-212.  This petition will be presented to the court on April 1, 2008, and the originators will stress that this type of abuse will NOT be tolerated - by Barnett or any other citizen.

Additionally, those in favor of stronger charges (Felony) against Barnett are urged to write:

These actions of abuse and torture are far beyond a misdemeanor. This jerk needs to be punished for committing numreous FELONYS. And also not allowed any pets for his entire future on this earth.

This is a felony. The dog was unable to defend himself or get away from this jerk. And dog is "Mans Best Friend." It would b a terrible travisty of justice if this man is let off with only "a slap on the wrist."

I'm happy to hear the charges have been upgraded to a Felony. I would also encourage your department keep track of this individual in the future. Many times this kind of behavior escalates to violence against humans. Thank you for your efforts to bring justice for those who can not defend themselves.

This is pathetic. I would like to see him recieve the death penalty. We should at least file his teeth down! To give him only a misdemeanor is ridiculous!!

This is an outrage! If this man had done this to a human being he would have been charged with a felony. Why is it that people think that beating or abusing an animal should only be a misdemeanor? If he can do this to a poor innocent and defenseless dog, imagine what he could do to a person. This punishment is a slap on the wrist. He needs to go to jail and I'm not talking about going there for only a year or so. He needs to be jailed for a very long time. If it were up to me he'd spend the rest of his miserable life in jail. Please, do not let this kind of crime go unpunished. Any kind of animal cruely should be charged as a felony. Please bring Justice to Lucas. Thank you!

Sir, I have been a pet owner for most of my life. We were taught as children, to respect life. We we loving and kind to our pets. For the last twenty years we have raised and loved Siberian Huskies. Most people we know ask us when they die if they can come back as one of our Siberians. As a retired RN, I have seen many things in my life. Cruelty to animals in a crime against our society. It is a proven fact that cruelty to animals can escalate to acts of agression against human beings. Christopher Barnett has committed a horiffic crime and my husband and I demand justice for Lucas. This is not a petty crime, this is a felony and should be answered to as such. To beat a poor helpless creature unconscious is just plain sick. No normal person would do that, would they? Mr Barnett needs to be locked away from those of us who value life and can function without resorting to this horiffic behavior. PLEASE DO SEE THAT CHRISTOPHER BARNETT IS CHARGED WITH A FELONY. iI am now 65 years old and we love our

I cannot stand to read the horrible details but PLEASE prosecute to the fullest extent of the law that is possible. This behavior is growing rapidly and must be stopped now.Surely it is not true that this is considered only a misdemeanor; it is quite obviously a felony of the utmost degree Please serve justice and file appropriate felony charges and keep this sorry excuse for a human away from society in all aspects, especially ever having anything whatsoever to do with animals.

Man's inhumanity to sentient beings never ceases to amaze me. What a world we live in! Lucas's case moved me deeply. How what was done to Lucas is only considered to be a "misdemeanor" is appalling. What, then, are the definitions of "aggravated animal cruelty" ? Must the animal be dead to qualify?
# 2,295:

I feel that this is a disgrace for our country to allow such cruelty to animals that are helpless. I hope he turns on his owner. Then maybe you will do somwthing. I am ashamed of all of you!

any animal abuser should prosecuted with a felony and face a significant jail term and monetary fines. i believe they should never be allowed to work with or own animals again. please take away his livlihood of farrier- he is much too violent and cruel a person

I can't believe that this would be considered just a misdeamor. This person is on his way to being a hazard to other humans also. Can you imagine having this done to you? Felony charges need to be filed. There was a witness to this horrible crime!

No amount of animal cruelty should be tolerated. To diminish his acts are to condone them and sends the message that it is acceptable. He should be jailed and never permitted to have a companion or farm animal again. He should also be ordered to reimbuse all care fess for Lucas.

I'm sorry but I think whatever horrible things you do to a defenseless animal should be done to you. People have been getting away with animal cruelty for far too long..when will we realize that abusing a beautiful, defenseless creature should have severe repercussions???

This is one of the most horrendous crimes I have ever heard of and clearly shows what an evil person Christopher Barnett is. To think that he only has been charged with a mere slap on the wrist misdemeanor is horrific! Barnett should be charged with a Class E Felony, prison for 1 year and the maximum fine and have to reimburse the humane society and the vet for all costs related to Lucas as well as the boxer. He should never, ever be able to own, or be around any animal for as long as he lives. He should also be the first Tennessean to grace the Animal Abuser Database with this evil crime. While he is in jail he should take vocational training because when he gets out he should have to find a new career. Anything less than a Class E Felony, maximum prison sentence and never to be able to have any animal ever again would be A TOTAL MISCARRIGE OF JUSTICE.

There is no excuse for abusing any innocent animal that is dependent on you. You have to be truly heartless to do something like that. I doubt that the person who did this horrible act is a useful member of society.

While searching refuge for Husky dogs in need. I come across this the most cowardly act. This pour excuse for a human being needs to be excluded from all animal contact and punished properly. This cannot and should not be tolerated. An example obviously needs to be set in this situation. USA what is happening over there do people not understand how loyal this breed of dog is. Open your hearts and put a stop to this horrible mess.
