Lucas the Husky in TN asks that you contact the DA and ask for justice. Upgrade the charges to a Class E Felony!

Demand Justice for Lucas, Pure Bred Husky Horribly Abused by Owner!

Target:
District Attorney Lisa Zavagiannis, McMinnville, TN

Animal advocates in Tennessee are DEMANDING that FELONY charges be filed against Christopher Lee Barnett, owner of Lucas the 2 year old pure bred Siberian Husky.  Barnett was observed by his neighbor viciously beating the dog unconscious.  The neighbor investigated, said the dog appeared dead, but actually was unconscious and bleeding from the mouth.  The neighbor swore out a warrant against Barnett for the brutal attack and the local humane society took custody of Lucas.

The humane society had Lucas examined by a local veterinarian.  The results of that examination were horrific, telling the story of previous abuse and cruelty.  Thirty of his teeth had been filed down to the gumline and even worse!  The veterinarian commented that Lucas had to have been semi-conscious or unconscious to endure that much dental damage.

Barnett is a farrier (horseshoer) by trade, and it has been speculated that Barnett used a wood rasp or hoof rasp to do this damage to Lucas' teeth.  The nerves in the teeth were exposed  and Lucas had to be in intense pain.

Sadly, Barnett is charged only with a misdemeanor at present.  Animal advocates want to see the charges upgraded to a Class E Felony, Aggravated Animal Cruelty, under Tennessee Code Annotated (TCA) 39-14-212.  This petition will be presented to the court on April 1, 2008, and the originators will stress that this type of abuse will NOT be tolerated - by Barnett or any other citizen.

Additionally, those in favor of stronger charges (Felony) against Barnett are urged to write:

This cruelty is premeditated and should be punished as a felony. This guy should also have the horses he shoes checked for abuse.

I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE COURT MANDATED FOR ANYONE ABUSING A CHILD OR AN ANIMAL TO HAVE THE SAME THING DONE TO THE PERPETRATOR. THAT SHOULD SETTLE IT FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE.

This act of unspeakable cruelty should not go unpunished and to the full extent of the law. Mr. Barnett, a farrier by trade, should have his license to practice revoked and should sit in prison for a very long time. Acts of cruelty against animals is the first step on the road to acts of cruelty and depravity against people. He needs to be stopped.

I don't believe Barnett should be able to have any occupation that deals with any animals. Let alone ever own or have in his possession an animal of any kind.

This is an example of extreme abuse to a helpless animal. By grinding down Lucas's teeth, lucas was rendered defenseless. Studies have show that when people can do this to animals, it can follow to even worse happening to people. Please let it be know this behavior and abuse to animals will not be tolerated in our society!

How we treat our animals tells much about us as a nation. This kind of cruelty and abuse cannot and should not be tolerated. Animal abuse should be prosecuted, this particular animal abuse should receive the most severe penalty possible. This dog, Lucas, deserves justice and the citizens of the USA demand it. What has he done to humans in his life?

What kind of monster can do something like that and not go to jail-makes you wonder how he treats his human family!
# 83:

Barnett has only been charged with a misdemeanor? When are our people in authority going to start taking these horrendous crimes seriously? The guy is a sadist that needs to be put away, for a long time.
# 82:
10:51 am PST, Mar 5, Terri Woodcock, Wisconsin
Come on. Anyone that would commit these terrible acts on any living being should be charged and prosecuted with everything possible. Get this monster off the streets. Barnett doesn't deserve to breath the same air as us humans.

This person(...obviously NO MAN, by any stretch of the imagaination!), has NO MORALS, NO CONSCIENCE, NO SCRUPLES, and should be prosecuted beyond the current misdemeanor charge. His BARBARIC, CONTINUED ACTS OF TORTURE AND CRUELTY were verified by the vet! He has no remorse, and will only continue to vent his ANGER AND HOSTILITY! People with this type of personality only continue to grow more and more violent. Please prosecute for MULTIPLE ACTS OF CRUELTY and TORTURE!! Thank you.

The cruelty described by this sick individual is beyond belief. This sick individual should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Any person who could do this to a defenseless dog will do it to a defenseless child, woman or elderly person. This behavior is typical of deranged serial killers - Keep this creep behind bars and have him pay for this crime against nature!

THAT MAN NEEDS A BIG PAT ON THE BACK FOR STANDING UP AND DOING THE RIGHT THING.
# 68:

This is ridiculous. He definitely should be charged with a felony. What's his excuse for beating this dog into unconsciousness? For filing his teeth down? Obviously he is a very sick, demented man. He should not get by with this horrific abuse with a slap on the hand. He's a cruel person. Did the husky ask for this? This guy has obvious psychiatric problems. Disgusting.

# 66:

Felony charges are not even enough in this case. This person needs extensive psychiatric counseling in addition to the cahrges and CONVICTION. This cretin needs drug therapy. Any human that could over an extended period of time commit such heinous acts of cruelty needs to be removed from our society. This is not a person I would be comfortable having around any living creature...that includes other humans.

Please don't let this man get away with such abuse. It seems to me if he cannot treat animals properly with appropriate care, he should not be allowed to own them. He also should be required to seek psychiatric care.

It is OBVIOUS this is a seriously ill and dangerous man...not to mention it is OBVIOUS this is a felony and he should be prosecuted under TN state law as such. Get him some help before he tortures another living being, and make him pay for this crime!!!
