Fight Discriminatory Practices in Lower Salford, PA

Fight Discriminatory Practices in Lower Salford, PA

Target:
Dear Board of Supervisors of the Lower Salford Township

There is a company in Montgomery County discriminating against more then 75% of local construction workers. Almac, an Irish company serving the pharmaceutical industry, and its construction manager, Skanska USA, are constructing a 240,000 square-foot headquarters facility in Lower Salford Township. This project discriminates against many qualified and trained contractors whose only fault is not choosing to belong to a union.

Township citizens should not have to pay more of their own tax money for a building that could be completed for far less through the work of non-union workers.  Almac and Skanska are only in the approval process for their discriminatory project.  Help let justice and fairness prevail by showing the Lower Salford Board of Directors that Almac and Skanska cannot discriminate.

Make a difference! Support your neighbors and standup for what is right.

Do not allow the Almac/Skanska project of Montgomery County to proceed with its current construction plans. By using only union construction workers, they have discriminated against more the 75% of local Lowe Salford construction workers.  The citizens of the township deserve better: they deserve fairness.

I worked for a Union contractor in New Jersey, and I was in two different Unions and it was not by choice. The Unions are job security for the individuals in this country that are unable to do anything else in their lives. Don't get me wrong there are very good Union workers out there, but they are 99% of the time with a company that employs them permanetly. As for the Union halls, the men sitting at these halls are 9 out of 10 times useless and are protected by the Union's laws and regulations. It is a crying shame that these big General Contractors and Owners discriminate against "Open-Shop" companies and it is even more pathetic that the goverments are allowing and supporting these practices. As a tax-payer and buisness owner in Montgomery County I would hope that the right choice would be made and let everyone have the oppurtunity to work in this Country.

Anyone should be allowed to bid on jobs weather you are union or not. This is one more way the union can bully other people.

I do not understand why it has to be union only. Why not the price dictate the job? It should be open to everyone and let the best one win. If it is the union so be it, but do not discriminate against non union workers.

I believe Unions had their time and place. If you still believe in them, more power to you. But, why should the hardworking taxpayers that believe in earning a paycheck by doing quality work be excluded from bidding on jobs and sustaining their livelihood? Is this not still the United States of America? The country that has lost countless heros who have fought to preserve our FREEDOM. The country were everyone is to be treated equally. They country that has discrimination laws to protect those beliefs. IS THIS NOT DISCRIMINATION???? Or does that not matter because those who have chosen to make this a Union only bid are doing so for personal financial gain or political advancement. All I can say is if you (those involved in making the decision to exclude us AMERICAN'S from working) have an American Flag flying at your home, please take it down, pack up your s--t, and move to a country that wants your commie ass. WE DON'T!!!

PLA's should be outlawed. As a long term resident of Lower Salford, I believe in the rights of the hard working men & women, not the union strong-arm tactics and political pocket lining. This area is known for quality driven and hard working craftspeople...those who work for an honest buck. Be fair and give us all a chance!

Why would the Board of Supervisors allow this to happen when the majority of the contstruction professionals who live, work and pay taxes in Lower Salford are merit shop contractors?

I hope that this is not the start of union only projects being funded by tax payer money. We belong to ABC just so we can be kept aware of things like this. Keep up the good work!!

75% of the construction workforce can't be wrong! Discriminating against these hard-working men and women is just plain wrong. Stand up for free enterprise and oppose this arrangement - this is America, where everyone should have the opportunity to compete fairly and openly.

Using unionized workers does not mean you get better workers. Keep it fair and open the projects to free enterprise.

This is America, Freedom of Choice. I choose to work all year long so I can feed my family, that is why I do not wish to be in the Union.

I think it is a travesty that a state can award/earmark 20 million dollars of piblic funds to a private development project and not allow all Pennsylvania citizens to woirk on the project.

The bidding process should be open to any contractor. Merit Shop and Union Shop and the best bid wins.

As residents of Lower Salford Township for 8 years and business owners in Montgomery County for the past year, we are truly disappointed that our non-union small business is being barred from the opportunity to provide a product and service to this industry. Our livelihood depends upon the local businesses, such as this company. What an impression they have left upon us. Thanks a lot Governor Rendell!

As a resident who lives AND works in Lower Salford I am truely disappointed in the decision to allow a portion of MY tax dollars to go towards supporting a project that does not even allow my company to work on the site of this new construction! You are stooping too low to appease this company to the detriment of those small business owners already here.

A free market is the only way to assure fair competition. This is not Russia, it is still the USA. Free market capitalism is as American as you can get. Protect capitalism, not unions.

All we ask for is a level playing field. We as merit contractors are fully qualified to paricipate in these jobs. As a taxpaying citizen of Montgomery County, I too deserve a chance to work

To Lower Salford Supervisors - I have lived in this neighborhood 45 years and have worked for a non union construction company, who supports the local community, for 18 years. I do not support your actions to make union only construction on this project.
