FLORIDA LEGISLATURE: PLEASE ACTIVATE GREYHOUND 24 HR TELEPHONE HOTLINE (OSNG) FOR THIS CRITICALLY NEEDED SAFETY NET! (OSNG) TO SAVE LIVES & RESCUE FROM CRUELTY & ABUSE.
OUR GREAT NATION, in every state, is in FAMILY PET crisis. As with puppy mills that are now being legislated against and out-lawed, 24 HR ABUSE HOTLINE should apply to any venue where large number of animals are kept in any sale/or entertainment venue and subject to neglect and/or abuse in the great state of Florida.
While response is great to shocking stories of animal abuse & cruelty many pets are dying in kill shelters, in astronomical numbers. This includes: Zoo, Circus, Agricultural Animals, captive sea animals, Rodeo, and Animal Shelters that house all animals.
FLORIDA NEEDS an ANONYMOUS 24 HR HOTLINE TO REPORT CRUELTY & ABUSE FROM WHATEVER ITS SOURCE. We are presently at an extremely critical time, due to the economy and other factors that put GREYHOUNDS at risk - and those who work in community shelters, or animal/pet clinics are intimidated to report abuse when they see it, for fear of loss of employment or retaliation. A HOTLINE needs to be created for this purpose, and protection for the reporting person provided.
PLEASE ADD YOUR STATE TO THE LIST, SO THAT HOTLINE NUMBERS ARE ACCESSIBLE, WHEN NEEDED. THANKING YOU.

The Lakeland Ledger published an interesting article on the shift toward more vigorous prosecution of animal cruelty cases in Florida. The article notes the links between violence toward animals being an indicator of a predisposition of violence toward people. The article also quotes Tampa animal law attorney Jennifer Dietz:

Dear friends,Many petition signatures have been received from around the world expressing outrage over Animal Cruelty & Abuse, which is the important issue here.Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking part in the conversation. I firmly believe that laws should be strengthened, and enforced to include a Felony charge, for crimes against animals.Hopefully, those responsible for committing this time of heinous atrocity will be charged and jailed. The petition, along with its signatures was sent to all listed on the target, in addition to government officials, local newspapers and TV stations.All of these defenseless animals who have suffered at the hands of their caretakers, are gone, but not forgotten.
