Free Charlie Toups

In Nov. Charlie Toups was arrested on misdemeanor federal charges of camping on public land, possessing marijuana and assaulting a Forest Service officer.
Mr. Toups has been called Colorado's ultimate ski bum as he subsists off an array of odd jobs and being free to ski, while bedding in a car in lots close to the slopes. He has been living this lifestyle since the 1970s without a ski injury or a cent of public money.
On Nov 14, near Arapahoe Basisn, five months after a Forest Service cop issued Toups a ticket for camping on public land in a Colorado Department of Transportation lot, they came for him with a warrant for his arrest. He said he was under the impression he had a "gentleman's agreement" to stay near the CDOT utility shed, based on his camaraderie with CDOT employees. Toups had missed two mailed summonses, sent to an Aspen-area PO box he never visited.  According to Forest Service special agent Travis Lunders, Toups "became actively resistant in the sense that he tensed up." He was then placed face-first into the snow and arrested.
Mr. Toups is facing more than two years in federal prision and $250,000 in fines. He could walk free with time served if he admits his guilt. Acccording to Mr. Toups "Ive lived this life for 33 years and now all the sudden I'm supposed to admit I'm guilty?. I cant do that."
Mr. Toups has caused no harm. The officers and attorneys in this case have over stepped their bounds. Please let all partys involved know that you support Mr. Toups in his plight and ask for his freedom.
