A Cockatoo denied it's nature and kept prisoner for its lifespan.

PETITION TO BAN BIRDS IN CAGESAND THE TRADE IN AUSTRALIAN NATIVE BIRDS

Target:
To the Honourable Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales. The Petition of the people of New South Wales brings to the attention of the House:
The caging of birds is cruel. Most of Australia%u2019s native birds can be bought and sold with or
without licences - destined for a traumatic existence and confined for life in a cage. These birds are deprived of every natural instinct, and in the case of cockatoos, can live for up to
100 years. In the 21st century, it is time to free caged birds.

The undersigned petitioners therefore request:
· A ban on keeping birds captive in cages.
· A ban on the sale of licences to breed and sell Australian native birds.
· Legislation for minimum cage sizes for existing captive birds.

A bird deserves to be free because that was what God intended when he created it.....

Nobody has the right to cage another living innocent being up. All creatures are born to be free and enjoy life. As long as man cages animals up, he will continue to cage and enslave people also. Man has to get over the notion of superiority over everything and the idea that the planet and other creatures are toys for his enjoyment.

A bird deserves to be free because a bird is freedom. Birds represent freedom it seems like sick irony to cage them.

Parrots are highly intelligent creatures. Dr. Irene Pepperberg did a 30 year study with an African Grey parrot, Alex, and she proved he had the intelligence of a 5 year old child and the emotions of a 2 year old child. Dr. Pepperberg continues to do her research with other African Greys that prove to be just as intelligent as Alex was. Please do not be cruel to these beautiful birds.

Intelligent creatures such as the cockatoo get bored, lonely and this causes them great traumatic stress. They suffer mental distress and pull out their feathers, just as a child would pull out their hair if put in a cage. These beautiful birds have the emotions of a 2 year old child and the intelligence of a 5 year old child as I mentioned above.

Once you've seen parrots flying free over forest or through city streets and playing fast games together in flocks or in pairs, you've seen the way they are meant to live.

To place parrots and other birds in caged isolation and rob them of flight, rob them of freedom, and rob them of their families is unbelievably cruel and should be banned. The breeding of parrots for sale should also be banned. All birds, especially parrots, are meant to fly freely. In addition to robbing these beautiful birds of all freedom and joy, people generally don't know how to properly care for them and they die needlessly.

I have worked in 2 petstores in my area and I can tell you that seeing these birds first hand makes all the difference in the world. They become depressed and bored in their cages. People will spend tons of money to buy them and just as easily turn around and sell them because of the care they require. Please allow these birds to be in their own natural habitat!!
