The beauty of LOROKI hills should be restored by sending the killers down Suguta Valley.

Kenya is for all Kenyans, we all have a responsibility to fight for the rights of our fellow brothers including the right to live, to own property and to breath fresh air free of war, discrimination or whatever kind of assault to any of the tribes. I pray that through our voice, our spirit of togetherness and our quest of well being the people of Samburu may live to overcome their present predicament. Let's rise beyond the obvious! let's fight for what we believe in!

It has been very difficult for me to believe that this has been going on in Kenya and yet I, like most other Kenyans, have been fooled by news of cattle raids.

Please try to help the Samburu people. I had the good fortune to meet some of them in Kenya in August of 2008, they are brave, loving, and gentle people. I hope the end of the violence is near.

This is of vital importance! Please give this your full attention. The Samburus are in danger of having their culture wiped out in much the way our Native American Indians did, but in this day and age, it should never happen!

Having the pleasure of being introduced to many of the Samburu in Lerata, it sickens me to know of the horrors that have occurred in the past year to this peaceful tribe. I pray for and end of the violence so all of the Samburu and citizens of Kenya can live in peace.

I do support this appeal as a friend and cultural relation of the Samburu people. They deserve to live in dignity and protection of their lives and resources just like any community. Their rights are our rights too and they deserve all the care and support necessary. Sakaja.

I am calling upon the Government of Canada through Ministers Lawrence Cannon and Beverly Oda through whose departments have passed a recent $4,500,000.00 grant to the Food Grains Bank for programming in Kenya and who have paid diplomatic representatives of Canada in Nairobi and are going to be spending over $1,000,000.00 to set up a Kenya Democratic Governance Fund that provides support to civil society organizations and can support human rights and development initiatives. If the Canadian Government can spend these sums in Kenya they can flex some diplomatic muscle and say "No genocide of the Samburu on our watch!" Here is an outake from a letter I received fom Minister Beverly Oda on July 3, 2009 "The Government of Canada, through the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and CIDA, is in regular contact with Government of Kenya officials. We continue to raise human rights concerns to encourage the Government of Kenya to initiate reforms that will improve their rule of law and accountability, land rights, and overall respect for human rights. Sincerely, Hon. Beverley J. Oda" My response to the Government of Canada through this petition and my other entreaties to them is "just do what you said you are supposed to be doing in a case like this."

No one has the right to try to extinguish a people. Thirty-five years ago I had the opportunity to experience the Samburu way of life, however briefly, and I'll never forget their dignity, their perseverance in adversity and their incredible positive perspective on life. I'm afraid that with the recent developments and lack of international acknowledgement of their situation, the Samburu will continue to be threatened by their own government as well as Somali raiders.

I am concerned that the Samburu be protected from the myriad pressures, natural and human, that are threatening the way of life of this dignified people.
# 114:

During the past year there have been several life-threatening developments that have occurred in Samburu country: a) A persistent and serious drought, which means no rain for pasture, which means no milk production for cows and no food for the Samburu, and about which little assistance has been provided. b) Massive and violent cattle raids carried out by Borana and Somali raiders, who have automatic weapons and have been hauling away Samburu cattle by the thousands in trucks into Somalia. This would be the equivalent of a terrorist group coming into a typical N. American community and stealing all the money, food, medicines and valuables and leaving the residents to die. c) The complete collapse of state or police protection of the Samburu and, with each attack, increasing evidence that some of the police and those in authority are actually colluding with the raiders or possibly benefiting from the raids. Medical response to the Samburu have been non-existent, both in terms of treating those wounded in the attacks and those dying of malnutrition. Children have been abducted and killed deliberately by the raiders to terrorize the Samburu. All this adds up to genocide in the opinion of the observers in Kenya, my colleagues and the reports by the Samburu themselves.

I've grown up around those communities in the Northern Kenya region and their suffering is real. Theese communities need the protection of those who really care about them. Do what you can however small, remember, a journey of a thousand miles always begins with one step.

surely human life is so valuable so much that everything should be done to protect the lifes and dignity of the samburu people. they are worth all our support and assistance to overcome this.

It's about time we as Samburus stood up and let the Government know that we are also human beings and much so Kenyans who should be treated equally as other Kenyans. We need to speak out so that we can be heard and let the other Kenyans know what is happening to us. I lost my sister in-law to the raiders some time back and my brother has a permanent scar on his chin which is a constant reminder. How many more are we going to loose before the government takes action to protect us?

The Kenyan Government must be held accountable for neglecting the Samburu community. The Government had prior information on a pending attack but handle the information in a typical government way.... put the file in the ‘’drawer ‘‘ for later ‘’reference’’. This is what happens when one community is disarmed while the other is not. Let them disarm both communities and tighten border security to protect its citizens.
