This is Leo from Poros, Greece, someone threw acid on him and burnt him horribly. The pain was excruciating, a kind citizen found Leo and took him to the vet where he was given medical care. Leo was adopted by a loving family, most animals that survive

Greece: Protect Your Animals or Lose your Tourists!

Target:
Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Agriculture,   Mayor of Aghia Paraskevi
Please be sure to join my FB site at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=38749219814    as we will be giving the petition as well as the site to the Greek authorities when meeting with them about their horrible abuse crimes that are continuing to go unpunished, they do not think they have a problem - that is the problem!  Be sure to click on "view full petition" and then "letter" under Leo's photo to read this letter in full.  thank you!  Athena

This petition is addressed to the authorities in Greece to ask that you to enforce the laws to protect the animals in Greece.  The crimes against the animals in Greece are horrific and the numbers are staggering, the people committing the abuse against these animals are not being punished.  We ask you to protect your animals, if not, the tourist trade will cease, no one wants to visit Greece to see not the beautiful Greece that was but to see instead the thousands of animals abused daily by the people of Greece.  Read the many signatures and stories from tourists that say they will never return because of the ill-treatment of the animals by the people in Greece.

To the authorities in Greece:
We, the undersigned, strongly urge you to start protecting your animals against people that torture and murder the animals of Greece. Enforce the laws to severely  punish those that abuse the animals.  Stop the poisoning of strays, we are well aware of the hundreds of animals that are poisoned prior to tourist season, their bodies loaded onto trucks and buried in large pits so that tourists won't see them.  We are also aware of the thousands of starving animals that are abused in horrific ways: hung, puppies thrown in trash bins, dogs burnt alive, acid thrown on them, poisoned, gutted, objects jammed into their body cavities, mouths wired shut so they cannot drink or eat, limbs cut off, all these horrific acts have been documented.  We urge Greece to pass legislation immediately protecting these animals, to set up shelters, to spay and neuter, to find homes and to teach the people that animals are our gift, they are our treasures, they are not dirty and disgusting as many people are taught to believe.  Read up on the history of Greece - dogs played a very important role in the history, they protected the farms and the people, what has happened to your country?  Until the animals are taken care of, tourists around the world will not be spending their money and visiting, there are many beautiful places to vacation where hearts are not broken, read this site, you will  read where tourists vowed never to return because the memories of Greece are not the beautiful oceans and countryside but instead their memories are of dogs trapped on short chains that are imbedded into their skin left out in the sun without  food or water never to be set free, until you teach your people how to properly care for their animals, you will be seeing no tourists!

The more people that hear about thses horrible and unreported crimes, the less people will travel to Greece. Thw word is spreading so it must stop. Greece should be remembered for it's wonders, not it's cruelty.

I am of Greek heritage.. I have always wanted to go to see my homeland - I shall not spend my hard earned American dollars in Greece till abuse of all animals is ceased. The abusers must be brought to justice and thoroughly punished. The animals must be helped-for they are innocent. You Greek People Suck to allow this animal abuse to continue.

I live on the island of Paros. I have witnessed many horrible abuses against animals. They dump kittens and puppies in the garbage bins. Dogs are kept on short leashes 24hrs a day, everyday. I have seen children hurt cats while everyone ignores it. Some youngsters go out at the weekends deliberately running over cats on the road. These youngsters are drunk, and are allowed to be so!

As long as men think that animals don´t feel, animals have to feel that men don´t think! It´s a a shame!

I hear nothing but horror stories coming out of Greece where animals are concerned. You should be ashamed of yourselves for allowing these things to happen.

I always thought I wanted to visit Greece but I will never do that if the people are this heartless. There is no reason to poison or torture any creature. Tourist dollars are no excuse. Get out of the dark ages.

I flew to Crete last year and brought back three dogs to have a live, home and family who loves them. They are now in good health because of the beautiful people who had a heart and took them on. I have never seen more thankful animals for a little bit of love and attention. I couldn´t believe how many homeless animals were on the island. Nobody cared about them and that they were starving. Me and my friend spent time to buy food for all the animals and making plans to bring some back. I remember this holiday to be the most sad one I have ever been to.

I have never been to Greece, however based upon my readings about the poor enforcement / or NO enforcement of laws to protect animals, I will NEVER visit Greece and spend my hard earned tourist dollars in a country that treats animals in such a sickening, deplorable manner. Shame on the Greek government. I pray that these signatures have an impact , and the government changes its policies , and "Wakes Up" to these criminal inhumanities.....
