Greece: Protect Your Animals or Lose your Tourists!

Target:
Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Agriculture,   Mayor of Aghia Paraskevi
Please be sure to join my FB site at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=38749219814    as we will be giving the petition as well as the site to the Greek authorities when meeting with them about their horrible abuse crimes that are continuing to go unpunished, they do not think they have a problem - that is the problem!  Be sure to click on "view full petition" and then "letter" under Leo's photo to read this letter in full.  thank you!  Athena

This petition is addressed to the authorities in Greece to ask that you to enforce the laws to protect the animals in Greece.  The crimes against the animals in Greece are horrific and the numbers are staggering, the people committing the abuse against these animals are not being punished.  We ask you to protect your animals, if not, the tourist trade will cease, no one wants to visit Greece to see not the beautiful Greece that was but to see instead the thousands of animals abused daily by the people of Greece.  Read the many signatures and stories from tourists that say they will never return because of the ill-treatment of the animals by the people in Greece.

To the authorities in Greece:
We, the undersigned, strongly urge you to start protecting your animals against people that torture and murder the animals of Greece. Enforce the laws to severely  punish those that abuse the animals.  Stop the poisoning of strays, we are well aware of the hundreds of animals that are poisoned prior to tourist season, their bodies loaded onto trucks and buried in large pits so that tourists won't see them.  We are also aware of the thousands of starving animals that are abused in horrific ways: hung, puppies thrown in trash bins, dogs burnt alive, acid thrown on them, poisoned, gutted, objects jammed into their body cavities, mouths wired shut so they cannot drink or eat, limbs cut off, all these horrific acts have been documented.  We urge Greece to pass legislation immediately protecting these animals, to set up shelters, to spay and neuter, to find homes and to teach the people that animals are our gift, they are our treasures, they are not dirty and disgusting as many people are taught to believe.  Read up on the history of Greece - dogs played a very important role in the history, they protected the farms and the people, what has happened to your country?  Until the animals are taken care of, tourists around the world will not be spending their money and visiting, there are many beautiful places to vacation where hearts are not broken, read this site, you will  read where tourists vowed never to return because the memories of Greece are not the beautiful oceans and countryside but instead their memories are of dogs trapped on short chains that are imbedded into their skin left out in the sun without  food or water never to be set free, until you teach your people how to properly care for their animals, you will be seeing no tourists!

I have been mentally scarred from volunteering on Paros, Greece, for the past 5 weeks, I knew that Greece had a stray animal problem but I just did not know at the disgusting animals cruelty that is prevalent in the country. As beautiful as Greece is, I have no intention of ever returning and will try and convince anybody who may visit the Island against it, as there is no way I want to support the tourism industry of a country, in the EU (!), who has no respect for animals. I am not convinced that many people know the full extent of the atrocity that goes on, I myself did not know of it until I spent time volunteering at the Alkioni Bird Hospital. There is no point having laws and not enforcing them. There also needs to be a massive push for better education concerning animals in the country. The work you do for animals is brilliant and I fully suppory any other organisation that does so...we will get there in the end!

I'm a german tourist and I've been few times on Crete. My holidaytime this summer was also the last one because I won't support a region, where many, many people harm animals or at least ignore their misery.I know that there are many animal-loving people whose eyes weren't opened yet. Please put an end to all cruelty towards animals. It is an important part of the european civilization to respect the rights of every creature and it is no accident that the wealthiest countries are the ones which put this principle into practice.

Untill greece shows it will build shelters and do some sterilising, to help the animals, i will never return i spent most of my two weeks last year in Zante ccoking and feeding stray cats and kittens, the only other people looking after them were tourists and the Z.A.W.F which is zakthynos animal welfare fund, which has feeding stations for cats and dogs, and does its best to spay as many as possible with donated money, i will only ever support the animal welfares as for a holiday, stuff greece i shall not let them get my money

there is no excuse for animal cruelty in the 21st century, there is no excuse for cruelty full stop humans or animals, if greece wants to move forward into the eu they have to adopt eu standards, there is no excuse for ignorance, it is not rocket science. i have two dogs rescued from greece, their stories r horror stories

I have just read Romina number 3892 message and i feel sorry that such a kind person is being upset by what is any everyday occurence it seems in Greece. The greek goverment are sorrupt, vile and callous, and only want the tourists money for themselves, and do no care at all for the animals, the only way for those cruel people to learn is to withold your money from their economy, and let them know the reason why, i for one will not return while sch horriblr things go on, i do advise everyone reading and signing to only donate to the GREEK ANIMAL RESCUE or GREEK ANIMAL WELFARE FUND to try and help those suffering animals, do not spend your money to fill the banks of the greek killers, please make them know we are against such cruelty which is on par with china....

the charities can be found on the websites.

I live in Greece. The situation here is horrible. No one cares for all the abandoned animals, dogs and cats who suffers outside on the streets from poisoning, abusing and lots of other crimes. In my own neiborhood there is this man who is continiously poisoning dogs during the night. He has killed so many dogs and you can't imagine how painful it is, to weak up and find out, that one more dog that you knew, that you were feeding every day, that you were playing with it, is dead with this horrible way. We have call the police we have asked from them to do something with this cruel person but they don't do anything at all. Please do something now. It's urgent. I can't stand this situation anymore. It's a crime that is going on and on without seeing anyone to care about that.THE AUTHORITIES MUST ACT IMMEDIATELY. I AM GREEK AND I AM SO ASHAMED BECAUSE OF THAT. THIS IS NOT A PICTURE OF A CIVILIZED COUNTRY.

I was on the island Zakynthos. And I can only say it is a paradies for tourist but a living hell for animals. The greek people are so friendly and I do not understand why they treat their animals (espacially their dogs) so bad. I will never go there again!!!

I saw many street dogs and cats who appeared to be in poor health whilst holidaying in Greece. The animals went from human to human, begging for food only to be shooed away. It was a distressing site indeed. I feel strongly that something needs to be done for these animals.

I used to love Greece and visit frequently. It is no longer so because of all the crimes commited toward sentient beings that have done nothing wrong. All of this outrage and deeply sadden me. In the land of philosophy, while even Pytagoras abstained from the consuption of meat, it is a degeneration of humanity that this cruelties are happening. I strongly require new law to protect innocent and defenseless animals. Then only, I will visit Greece again.

I never again will visit greece, it's a horror country for animals. Not tourist should visit greece anymore! The greece mostly have no love for the animals - what I heart the last years about this country is the poor horror!

I am so disgusted at what I have heard and seen!!!! Greece is a beautiful country....now i won't ever go back! It sickens me that the locals would actually stoop that low and harm one of Gods creatures!!! Shame on you....and shame on the government for allowing this to happen.

As a businessman and world traveler, I will do all I can to avoid any use of products from Greece. Additially I have circulated this information to employees and staff to make sure any and all plans to visit Greece are stopped.

While visiting Greece, I could not enjoy the beutiful country because of the back drop of abused animals! The greek attitude toward animals is deplorable

to the greek government is it so hard to put in place a simple legislation to punish those who carry out these barbaric acts, greece was always known as the cradle of civilisation, however you are fast becoming the cradle of cruelty, the conservation and protection movement grows every day our memory is long and our reach is great, tourism to your beautifull country will start to suffer as people decide to boycott your country for holidays ,this is your chance to do something about it now !

This just shows that Greece does not care one cent for its most vulnerable creatures. "A countries moral progress is judged by how its most vulnerable creatures are treated" GREECE HAS NO MORALS and is morally bankrupt and soon it will be financially bankrupt if these practice is not stopped. Money spending animal loving tourist will boycott any and all affiliations of GREECE. You have only yourselves to blame for this. YOU ARE CRUEL PEOPLE TO ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN TO INNOCENT CREATURES!
