Guidance Situation at Hommocks

Target:
Hommocks Parents
Sponsored by:
As concerned parents and taxpayers, we believe we have the right to know why the two most highly qualified guidance counselors at the Hommocks Middle School have been "administratively reassigned," why 1,200 students have been left to rely on two much less experienced counselors, and why this situation has continued since October 29.  This isn't a "personnnel matter" any longer -- it's a matter of education, and a matter of responsive government.

Elizabeth Denhoff is an excellent guidance counselor, as attested by her many students and their parents. To denigrade her is inexcusable. She was always there to assist Hommocks children and went above and beyond her duties. A definitive look into the administration's decision to "resassign" her is necessary.

It is a shame that these counselors have to suffer because of the incomepentence of the administration of this school. I blame the principal.I don't undertstand why he is still there. HE should be the one on "administrative leave". He is the most incompetent leader and it seems like everyone else has to suffer because of his poor management skills....they need to get rid of him. This community deserves more than "this is a personnel issue".

as a student who once went to hmx i went through the mr.rod thing in which they told us nothing but then the next day would see him on tv. The school district could be a little more honest with the student and the parents who live in the community. and if i was still in hmx i would be worried. Getting a new guidence counciler no matter if i was in 6,7,or 8th grade must be very scary how do you know you can trust that person and who at this time are students turning to? I for one feel asahamed to say i once went to hmx. my favorite quote is live and learn. This school has been through something like this before a facultyy member has sundenly been "fired" this school has already been through something like this. im sad to say this school hasnt learned.

I can attest that Elizabeth Denhoff would never, NEVER place a child in harm's way. Mamaroneck should come clean about any grievance with her so parents can be at ease. I imagine the same is probably true for the other counselor.

Once again, the District is surprised to see that tenured employees, who got tenure without the slightest review of their performance, have to be set aside and replaced by expensive replacements. How long will we have to tolerate this incompetence at the top ? and what was the principal doing ? schmoozing with teachers, as usual, instead of watching them ? is this why he is paid 140k plus perks ?

in response to 227 do you really think that Mr. M----e does not have anything better to do than to check into this blog...he is a VICTIM ...and not what you portray him to be...this avenue just amounts to BULLYING via the internet... which is what so many middle school children are subjected to everyday...PLEASE stop acting like a bunch of Middle Schoolers...wait for all the facts to come out....the administration ceraintly chose 2 very experienced and qualified coounselors ....they stepped into a mine field that I am sure they did not know existed...in their first "semester" of their "freshman year" they have held the fort..wonderfully...I only hope that they do not have a bitter taste ...I hope the joy that they felt in June.. being chosen as guidance counselors in the Hommocks Middle School....has not left them feeling isolated or ostracized...something that middle school children feel...give these folks a chance....they started a new career ...and they are so qualified...with joy and enthusism ...and I hope to God they never lose that

Whoever you are, Commenter #227, it seems you're in the minority. Anyone reading this petition -- which so far is the only "reading" this community has as to what people are feeling...can attest to the fact that these women have ALWAYS put our children first and put passion into their jobs. I, for one, ALWAYS saw Elizabeth Denhoff at her job before 8 and after 5 and she ALWAYS got back to me promptly and efficiently.

Unfortunately my experiences with the school, administration and the guidance staff has demonstrated that their "assurances" are not to be trusted. The administration has shown that they are sloppy and unprofessional. Given the events of recent years it is imperative that we learn the reason for this action.

It's great that these women fooled the parents in the community so well. Anyone who ever worked with them know why they are not here. They are nasty evil women who deserve everything they get!!

I don't know how this school district can expect to attract high quality faculty after publicly humiliating two experienced counselors in this way. Pulling them out of school and telling the parents that "at this time" no child is believed to have been put at risk suggests some sort of extreme misconduct and is certainly an odd way to protect their privacy. These counselors are living under a cloud of speculation and rumor that needs to be cleared up.

Something is clearly amiss with our school system. I think we should all attend the next Board of Education meeting. I'm sure the Board would appreciate a show of interest from the community and an opportunity to inform us all.

The fact remains that two counselors are carrying out the responsibility of four. That is unacceptable and certainly puts our children's well-being at risk.
