Animal Planet has come out with a new show called "Jockeys," which portrays horse racing and the people who do it in a heroic and idolizing fashion. Horse racing is a brutal and inhumane sport in which the jockeys beat a horse repeatedly to make it run faster, the breeders kill any foal which is not within the specifications that they are breeding for, and if an animal trips during a race and breaks it's leg they put it down without trying to help it at all...without a second thought. For Animal Planet, of all channels to be airing this television show is not only ironic, it is a slap in the face for anyone who works hard to secure rights for animals and believed those at Animal Planet to "be on their side." Please sign this petition to bring attention to this travesty of a show.

Every time I see a commercial for this show I am completely disgusted. How on Earth could ANIMAL PLANET air a show like this one? Horse racing is not a sport. It's a cruel, inhumane, and absolutely hideous form of entertainment. For a network that supposedly advocates the humane treatment and respect of animals, this show is an abomination.

It is time for our awareness of the well being of animals to include their exploitation for our entertainment. It is shocking that a channel supposedly devoted to animals could get this so wrong. It has been well documented for a very long time how cruel and unhealthy horse racing os for the horses. While we probably cannot end the practice of this dangerous sport we can and should end Animal Planet's promotion of it by broadcasting it as a TV series. End "Jockey's" NOW.

I am truly disappointed that Animal Planet has chosen to air a television show that glamourizes the 'sport' of horse racing. Horses are constantly experiencing injuries which result in death in these races. And for what? The economic gain of thier owners. I once was proud of Animal Planet for showing real animal issues in shows such as Animal Cops. That show is able to shine light on animal abuse and it forces people to look at the topic. Jockeys does exactly the opposite. It is covering up the ugly and shining light on the seemingly 'glamorous' part of this brutual activity.

Why doesn't Animal Planet show the true Santa Anita Park and all the horses that are put down because of racing injuries or the meat packers coming to take the horse to Canada or Mexico to be a meal after the horse is no longer profit maker. Also ow about showing the horses suffering and methods used to get the horse "race ready"?

I'm surprised and shocked that animal planet would do such a show! I hope they will come to their senses and reconsider. If not I would very much like to impose on them the need to show the other, not so attractive side of this "sport'. Animal abuse in the horse racing industry is rampant and should not be tolerated.

I can't believe that Animal Planet is serious about this program!!! I have no desire or care anything about the plight of Jockeys. The entire horse racing community should be shut down because of extreme cruelty to these horses.
