We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned by the high rates of child abandonment, torture and killings due to the widely held belief in child "witches" in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
We believe that all children have the right to be protected from being hurt or mistreated, either phyically or mentally, and that it is the role of the Government to ensure this. As such we declare our full support for the key demands of the Prevent Abandonment of Children Today (PACT) campaign. These are as follows:
1 That the Nigerian federal government enact legislation making it illegal for children to be branded as 'witches'
2 That the Akwa Ibom State Government work with all stakeholders to develop a comprehensive plan of action to protect and save the lives of children branded as 'witches'
3 The Akwa Ibom State Government should begin to regulate the activities of churches known to be violating the rights of children
4 The Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) should ban all home videos that promote superstitious beliefs and lead to the stigmatisation of children as "witches"
We call upon the Nigerian Federal Government, the Akwa Ibom State Government and the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) to do everything in their powers to protect and save the lives of these innocent children. The eyes of the world are watching . Turning a blind eye to this needless suffering is not an option. Please act now.

I'm a faithful Christian and working as an educator with kids in the age of some few months up to the age of 12 years. Every day I follow the development of different children. Already every baby has its own personality and own capabilities, you see it, when you meet children with full respect. Children are free from prejudices and bad thoughts, because they don't know yet all the dark sides and bad characters of this grown-up-world. Children need us for their first steps into this life and with this, we have a big responsibility! It is a confession of failure, when adults use kids as victims of their own misbelief in devilish practices. Adults know very well, that children are not able to defend themselves, and this is why they choose them. This must be stopped! All our children, if healthy, mentally handicapped or disabled, in any country and in any families are given from God with all his endless love! This we always have to keep in our minds! We must show our fullest respect and a high responsible behaviour to all children, the most wonderful gifts of God!

It is appalling and deeply distressing the way the children in Nigeria are mistreated. I am a Christian myself and the Bible condemns torture, murder and abuse of any form. The Lord wants us to love each other. Do these prophets consider their teaching speaks of love? Their actions are not of God but of the devil, and these prophets teach pure evil to finance themselves. The documentary has really broken my heart and I want change! I am willing to help in any way possible to make a difference. Collectively we all need to raise awareness of the situation in Nigeria so that something can happen, that someone of power will intercept.

I am willing to help out if I can. I don't believe that pure reasoning here and now will do much help in the minds of those people who are scared of witchcraft and witches. To prevent children being harmed I suggest that we construct opposite narratives and create alternative films that suggests that pointing the finger and abandoning children would not be part of the bible's teachings. I am a psychologist and I am willing to give my time to help out in such a way. Let me know if we can form a team. Sofia

::Witches do not exist in the world we set our feet on::! The mind of the accuser is the only realm where the witch can exist. They stem from the accusers own inner demons. The inner demons being nothing but else everyday negative thoughts and beliefs patterns. But then again belief is a powerful thing. The cause of poorly guided belief can have grave effect. God and religion is an act of mercy and love. Introvert as well as extrovert. Any correction will have to be made on our own path and within ourselves. The bible does no where speak of witches or demons of this world. The spirit of the good God is in all things The heaven on earth is the place to find. The pain and poverty of this world is grim. By adding Hate, Social isolation, Fear, Pain and depriving them of any sense of being a good and loving being. The ultimate negative has happened. The starvation of the body, mind and soul. The accuser has unintentionally created hell on earth for these children as well as themselves. Fore there is no love for anyone in this situation. And god is love!

I really really hope the Nigerian government will take effective action to handle the horrifying treatment of children (and others) in regards to them being labelled witches and wizards both by helping the children, setting up shelters etc and getting the priests and parents behind bars to SHOW that this is not acceptable, but also by helping the people learn how to read, so they can find out for themselves - that it isn't written in the Bible, how to become more able and work their way out of poverty and so on...it is the only way to handle the situation permanently and make the people who profit and show such outragous lack of respect for the children and the society they live in lose power. The international society should be participating in this BIG time!
