This is complete discrimination agenst women! Their reason is pitiful! We all know its really about the fact that women would not be wearing revealing clothes, like they have to in almost all the other sports.

The IOC, it appears, will let women in if they show some skin. Eye candy, as shown in the extensive coverage of womens beach volley ball, wrestling and boxing could be the magic key. Based on that theory, might I suggest the women ski jumpers offer to ski TOPLESS? The story would 'have legs' and camera crews would be falling all over themselves to get the perfect angles! Who Knew?

As a NCAA D1 athlete and currently a professional athlete I believe strongly in equal opportunity in sports, especially in the Olympics. It's about time.

Is ski jumping more dangerous than downhill or slalom, in which broken bones and even death occur? More dangerous than ice hockey, in which jugular veins have been ripped open - so far only men's jugular veins have been publicized - and concussions are common? Well, it's certainly not more dangerous than baking brownies and caring for the kiddies, to which tasks the IOC and at least one Canadian judge apparently want the women resigned. A threat of a boycott of the entire games is in order and I call on all Olympic athletes to endorse such an action. I do so with the absolute certainty that it will lead in short order to permitting women to ski jump in the upcoming games.

Women have been jumping for decades, and even ski flying. Get the old “fascist” men out of the Olympic Committee. Time to wake up to the 21st Century!

How could they be allowed? How dare they exclude women in 2009 - in a democratic country and get away with it? My God! These women may never have an oppurtunity to represent their own country on their own ground. Shame on Canada! Shame on VanOC! Shame on IOC! Shame on us for letting this happen. I agree with Ruth - have both or have none. Cancel the men's ski-jumping then. Patrick notes that IOC laws don't apply to Canada. then IOC shouldn't be allowed here. Immigrants must vow to obey Canadian law ... why shouldn't IOC?

What are they going to aspire to if there is no olympics. This is the ultimate goal for all olympians and athletes, all it will do by removing ski jumping in the olympics is cause sports in general to suffer and discourage future olympians from trying out for this amazing sport.
# 11,475:

I feel that women definitely should be allowed to take part in the ski-jumping at the Olympics. If they can't participate, neither should the men's ski jumping be part of the winter Olympics, and that would take away a very important part of the winter Olympics, as skiing is the most fun part to watch, along with the ice skating.

Actions speak louder than words. If the IOC actually believe discrimination to be contrary to the spirit of the Olympics, it would enter women's ski jumping as an Olympic event. Discrimination can hide behind many faces...medical concerns, stringent rules. I hope the IOC finds the courage to stop hiding.

The Olympic motto "swifter, higher, stronger...but only if you are a man? The Olympic creed " "The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well." Has the IOC seen it?

It's utterly absurd they aren't allowed to compete. The Olympics represent hope, athletic dreams, the physically driven and the greatest spirit of competition there is. Don't rob these girls of this chance...something they've rightfully earned with years and years of training and dreams!

It is very disturbing that an organization like the IOC can dictate the terms of an event being held in and funded by Canada without being subject to our laws.

Lindsay Van and all the other women DESERVE a chance to jump; add it on to a men's event before or after if you're worried about not getting enough draw for tickets or fitting into the schedule.

It is very disappointing to see that the women are being denied the opportunity to compete in olympic ski jumping. Adding it to the winter games would increase interest in the whole sport of ski jumping. I hope the IOC quickly comes to realize its error. It should not take a judge to force common sense on the committee.

As a member of the public and a supporter of the Women's Ski Jumping Team....I would like the IOC to make an in person television broadcast statement that thoroughly explains the process of what a ski jumping team has to do to qualify to jump at the Olympics in 2010....And....what explanation, in detail the technical requirements are that the Women's team have and have not met to meet those requirements.
