I couldn't believe when I heard that this was the only Olympic sport that does not have both a men's and women's competition. It is time to change this, and what better place to start than Canada?

The UN Charter, and the Olympic Charter, make it explicitly clear that this is a violation of human rights and athletes rights, and is punishable by internationa law. The LEAST the IOC can do is allow women to participate.

There is no reason that women shouldn't participate in the same events as men.

There is no reason why the ladies in skijumping can't match the competitiveness they have in any other winter sport. There just needs to be a platform, and world championships have already shown that. But it can only be a starting point. If they were not allowed to take part, let's be serious, it would be a shame!

We live near the 2002 Olympic ski jump facility and have watched the young women train for competition. They are strong, graceful, and talented--what a shame they are not allowed to compete in the Olympics in a sport they love. Please establish gender equity in this wonderful competition. ---Thank you.

The old boys club of the IOC must wake to the realities of the 21st century ! Equality must be exercised and recognized at all levels, functions and activities including the sport of ski jumping at this day and age!! The old fashion attitude of the IOC must be changed!!!!

I am completely stunned that women are barred from this sport for no good reason that I can fathom. I have read all that the IOC has said, and it doesn't make sense. Thanks for this opportunity.

WOMEN HAVE HAD TO FIGHT FOR THE RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN EVERYTHING FROM SPORTING EVENTS, TO POLITICS, TO SIMPLY VOTING IN GENERAL. FEMALE ATHELETES HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMPETE AND THE FEMALE POLULATION ALONG WITH SMART MEN, SHOULD AND WILL BACK THEM AS BEST WE CAN. THESE YOUNG FEMALE ATHELETES ARE COURAGEOUS AND GIFTED AND THEY ARE DETERMINED TO FIGHT FOR THEIR RIGHT TO FLY. THE ONLY THING STOPPING THEM FROM OLYMPIC COMPETITION IS THE IOC. PLEASE VOTE IN FAVOR TO LET THESE WOMEN SOAR!

I met DeeDee and Jessica this past weekend at the FWSA convention in Reno. The story left a lasting impression on me. I have been faced with discrimination over the years, but I thought gender discrimination was pretty much a thing of our past. Obviously, I was wrong on the world level. This must stop. These young women are qualified. Let them compete!

Shame on the IOC! As you all know, 'we are all equal, but some are more equal than others', meaning that gender equity only counts when it is convennient for the male-dominate establishment.

The IOC needs to open its arms and embrace Women's Ski Jumping. There is absolutely no reason for them to be excluded from participating in the Olympics. Women's Ski Jumping is a Sanctioned FIS discipline and should have the same recognition granted to it as the Men's Ski Jumping events.

If the women can't compete, then neither should the men. How can Canada allow sexist archaic rules for a publicly funded event like the Olympics?

"Currently there are 135+ athlete competing on an international level [in women's ski jumping], which is more than snowcross, ski cross, bobsleigh, skeleton, and luge" All of which are Winter Olympics events open to both men and women, while ski jumping and nordic remain open only to men." What happened to equal rights and opportunities?
# 10,805:

I cannot think of any reason beyond pure sexism why women ski jumpers would not be allowed to compete along with their male counter parts, are they some how less sporting? less entertaining?

I believe women have worked hard to be professional and excell in all aspects of ski jumping. They deserve an equal chance to compete.
