I am a Council Licensed dog breeder, our kennel goes back to the 1950's. We have always stood by anything we have ever bred. We health check all breeding stock as a matter of course. I would never have realised that so many so called 'top' kennels weren't doing so and acting on any unfavourable results. We have stuck as closely as possible to the original type from whence we started, I know full well that our dogs would not make a final line up in a show, the breeds have changed such in the time. I have found it increasingly difficult to find like stock to breed with. The 'old fashioned' types are dwindling now a days. Something needs to be done before many breeds totally loose what they WERE and SHOULD BE. Dogs were bred for different jobs, they should be physically able to still do them. I have even had our German Shepherds working as gun dogs! I have had a stud dog owner telephone up to ask if I bred a very peculiar bitch that his dog HAD recently covered. The bitch was NOT the one for the Kennel Club registration certificate, it was the wrong colour for starters. The papers had been taken for an unregistered bitch and a litter was registered shortly afterwards with the Kennel Club! Several attempts were made to stop he litter being registered and no response was given by the Kennel Club until sometime after the litter was registered. Their response- 'the application form was all filled in correctly'. They couldn't care that it was not the correct papers for the bitch just the paperwork was filled in! I have had a gut full of the Kennel Club. It is fast becoming a farse. They have never cared about the dogs just their fees. A self proclaimed expert on EVERYTHING canine. |
