We, the people are concerned about the political and economic conditions of the great State of Michigan and the Nation. The turn of events in American policies over the last 20 years has moved us miles away from the Constitutional Republican government, which was gifted us by our founders. We are now facing a pseudo European socialistic model, and with the collection of presidential orders awaiting implementation, we could, in short fashion, be facing Fascism. With the onslaught of unfunded or half funded mandates for various socialistic programs brought on since the advent of the New Deal, and more recently, with the outlandish spending sprees by former President Bush and the now President Obama, the debt of America is in the stratosphere; some estimate to be in the neighborhood of $100 trillion. The Federal government's actions of coercing the states to implement Federal mandates in exchange for the returning of monies collected from the citizens and businesses in Michigan is surely unconstitutional and yet, our state leadership allows this blackmailing to continue. If one considers the Federalist Papers and our resulting Constitution, it can confidently be argued, the Federal government has overstepped its governing authority in almost every aspect of our lives, and we the people and our state leaders over the years have allowed these transgressions of states rights. We are sure that many of our founders such as Madison, Jefferson, Paine, and Washington would have taken up arms long before now.
As such, we demand our state leadership to support and pass legislations such as those introduced by Michigan State Senator Patterson bills such as SCR 4 and SR 17. Rep Opsommer HCR4, HCR6, HCR9, HCR14, Rep Knollenberg HR70, Rep Byrun HR47. These bills have inspired a few of us at the grassroots level . We have recently created a series of social web sites such as Michigan Stands for State Sovereignty that focus on tracking the various sovereignty resolutions and bills introduced in each of the several states. It is time for the citizens and the leaders of the several states to tame Washington DC and return the power of governance to its rightful owners, that is, to the people of the several states. We are confident that if our state leaders put their thinking caps on, that you and others will conceive and enact laws to prevent further encroachment upon states rights, and perhaps reclaim some of the rights that our state has seemingly relinquished control over to the Federal Government. There are a couple of good examples of forward thinking legislation in MI Rep Opsommers introduction of HB 4783 and HB 4653.
We, the citizens have additional concerns about the DC encroachment upon additional personal and state liberties, which need to protect the citizens at the state level by preventing Washington DC from:
I. Establishing martial law or a state of emergency within one of the States comprising the United States of America without the consent of the legislature of that State.
II. Requiring involuntary servitude, or governmental service other than a draft during a declared war, or pursuant to, or as an alternative to, incarceration after due process of law.
III. Requiring involuntary servitude or governmental service of persons under the age of 18 other than pursuant to, or as an alternative to, incarceration after due process of law.
IV. Surrendering any power delegated or not delegated to any corporation or foreign government.
V. Any act regarding religion; further limitations on freedom of political speech; or further limitations on freedom of the press.
VI. Further infringements on the right to keep and bear arms including prohibitions of type or quantity of arms or ammunition.
VII Further nationalization of health care.
The American experiment was carefully crafted to allow the citizens the opportunity to maintain a balance of powers between the various branches of government. From our point of view, this balance, particularly at the Federal level, is no longer in place. We ask you and the other leaders of the great State of Michigan, to be bold in your leadership role and help reclaim our State Sovereignty and our Constitutional Republican form of government. As was stated by several observers: the Stimulus plan is not a stimulus for Michigan and we need to appeal to all the good citizens of Michigan to work together and put us on the track of common sense and liberty. It should be clear to all, we cannot depend on DC to deliver us from our economic problems, and many at the federal level certainly do not seem to be concerned about our individual sovereign liberties. The strength and answers for Michigan and America rests with we the people. Now is a crucial time in our history. Perhaps it is time to think a bit outside of the box... government for the people and by the people.
As a wise man once said: the bill of rights is a misnomer; It should be called: the bill of responsibilities. We are confident that the state of Michigan and the Nation will rise up stronger than ever with that ideal and with your help and the help of all of our fellow citizens.
As a final note: Over 200 years ago, the father of our Constitution, James Madison wrote: "To preserve the Republic, it is in the hands of the people. We have staked the whole future of American civilization not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all of our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government; upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments".
The constituents of MI demand action on the above named issues and protection from all others federal encroachments in the future involving constitutional State and Individual Sovereignty!

I am deeply concerned and disheartened about legislation causing us to move away from our constitutional ideals (and am concerned about current economic conditions) coming from the past Bush administration and the current Obama administration. I sincerely believe that each State needs to take measures to protect its people and itself from Washington D.C. I urge you to support Representative Opsommer's House Bills 4783 and 4653.

I want to know why the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is NOT being adhered to? Where are the state officials' voices, when the Federal Government is intruding on states rights? Why does this subject come to light because it has become a grassroots effort to protect our freedoms? It appears to me that the Federal and State governments are in collusion with one another! This is outrageous that both of these bodies of lawmakers are being paid a dime of taxpayers hard earned money... it is bonafide THEFT!

When politicians take the oath of office they swear to support, protect, preserve and defend the constitution. There was a time when they used to ask if the legislation they were about to vote on was constitutional. That was a long time ago. Now they ignore the constitution and ask how can I spend more money to show the people what I did for them to get re-elected.

The entitlement concept adopted by so many Americans is wrong, wrong, wrong. When we stand up together we can get things done for ourselves.
Michigan has been a proud state, and has led the nation in many issues. Let's lead this time in reclaiming our rights and responsibilities.

The people of Michigan need to reserch the Politicians we vote into office all year long, not thirty days before the election. If someone says they are going to give you something for nothing they have to take it from somebody. If you haven't worked for anything you don't deserve anything. Mental and physicaly handicap people should recieve care.

I have yet to meet any one of the 50 million people who are without health insurance except by their own choosing. Surely, I would know at least one. Where are these millions? Also, where are the compounded dollars our social security wage deductions generated over the years while the gov held our money? Mine is not coming to me and neither is anyone else getting theirs! We've been robbed plain and simple! Worse yet, we accept it when the gov says they are running out of OUR social security money. Where's the protest?

Show me where any government program works - - healthcare, cap and trade, big spending bills. Our government is out of control and they aren't even reading the bills that they are passing! And they will also exempt themselves from any health reform they pass! What arrogant hypocrites!

The federal government has grown too big for the nations good. Our public officials have lost touch with the American people they are supposed to be representing. They have been corrupted by lobbyist, big pharma, big corporations, who offer them money and power. This must stop and the American people must take a stand to bring this nation back under the Constitution and the principles this nation was founded on and elect officials that will truly "Serve" the people that put them in office. Now is the time to declare the sovereignty of each individual state and let Washington know we will not bow to their over reaching oppressive laws that try to control & tax every area of our lives!

I would appreciate the Democratic Party and the Republican Party members of the legislature turn aside from their partisan bickering and one-up-manship and get down to the business of standing up to the federal government and demanding the federal recognition of states rights. I believe that the facts tell us that the federal government has ignored the Constitution and the checks and balances written into it for too long. The State of Michigan is sovereign. The United States is a union of independent states, not a union of sovereign people of a national government. It is the responsibility of the state to its people to stand as a bulwark against the the federal government and its usurpations of power and its infringements of the rights of the individual.
For the defense of states rights against the national government please refer to the Kentucky Resolutions of 1798 and 1799 written by Thomas Jefferson and the Virginia Resolution of 1798 written by James Madison.
Many of the federal government's recent usurpations are based on constructions built upon the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution. The actual ratification of the amendment was not by Constitutional amendment adoption proceedings. Its Constitutionality is questionable at best.
Michigan is at a cross roads and we will either cross it as a free citizens of a sovereign state or as slaves to a national government.
