Multinational manufacturing in China-India must be just.

Target:
U.S./China Business Council.
Sponsored by:
This petition addresses worldwide trade/business with China and the hypocrisy of western multinationals who claim to promote workers rights yet reportedly oppose and fight legislation in China by the Chinese government which aims to improve workers rights, working conditions and green manufacturing development.

Multinational corporations doing business with China and manufacturing in China would be well served to use their influence to help promote Chinese legislation that focuses on the rights of Chinese workers which includes fair and just pay and safe working conditions.

Also supporting Chinese legislation that aims to improve the environmental standards and regulations concerning toxic emmissions and pollution of Chinese air and water by multinational and domestic manufacturers.

Mulinational companies who use Chinese workers in their manufacturing processes should understand that employing Chinese workers and manufacturing on Chinese territory is a privilege and not a "right" they have gained through market forces or because they are clever business leaders and so now have the right to abuse, mistreat, under pay and take advantage of Chinese workers by taking advantage of loopholes in Chinese environmental and labor laws.

Profits gained in such a manner will be seen as blood profits squeezed out of the misery and impoverishment of not only Chinese workers but workers everywhere on earth who's labor rights and environments are reduced and destroyed when multinationals and their leaders choose to oppress and crush workers and irresponsibly dump wastes into the air and water in China, India, African nations and other countries where they may take their manufacturing not for the purpose of lifting people and/or workers up but for the purpose of casting them down and for the purpose of despitefully using them and through careless manufacturing processes which destroy their air and water for an immoral increase in profit margins.

These types of business practices in China and India, because of their huge populations which provide a seemingly endless poor, exploitable labor force, pushes down labor standards, environmental standards and taxes in all nations on earth and is a race to a pit of environmental, economic and governmental destruction for the not only Chinese and Indian workers and governments but all nations and people on earth who wish to attract and appease multinational corporations with lower and lower taxes rates, lower environmental standards and lower workers rights.

These practices, if left unchecked, will most likely bring more devastation to the earth and suffering to people of all nations and their governments whose tax bases will be further eroded causing underfunding of government services and regulatory bodies causing them to lose further control to multinationals who are not in their nature democratic institutions as most governments are.

Well funded democratic governments are neccessary to give a voice to the people and as a balance against corporate power and potential corporate power abuses. An adequate tax base provides this funding.

Multinational corporations using non-democratic governments to excessively increase profits are in many ways promoting the denial of the rights of citizens to have democratic rule and to participation in government.

Multinationals doing business in China and also India should voluntarily pay workers well over the minimum wage and maintain extremely high and safe working conditions and environmental practices.

Also these multinationals and their leaders should politely and respectfully lobby the Chinese government to increase democratic reforms in China whenever and wherever possible or when the opportunity presents itself to express such opinions in a civil and informed manner.

Taking these actions will surely lift up and be a blessing to the Chinese government, the Chinese people and democracy and human rights everywhere.

Although making a profit is a neccessary part of business, what ultimately leads to the success or failure of any business venture is doing what's right and good and there is a fine line between what's right and good and the increase of profits at the expense of justice, fairness and the health and welfare of people and the earth on which we live and from where these products and profits come.

This is a line which our business leaders in the U.S. and worldwide should be aware of and take great pains not to cross, so trade and business worldwide can be an endeavor which can become economically, environmentally and humanly sustainable and healthy as much as this is possible.

We the undersigned agree with the sentiments of the author of this petition.

And we ask why the multinationals move their operations to these kinds of countries??? Answer: cheap, cheap, and no regulations!!!! We need the jobs here(US) to afford to buy the stuff. Mother was right, you can cut off your nose to spite your face. The mulinationals may soon learn that from our dwindling buying power.
