No More Puppy Mills

No More Puppy Mills

Target:
Represenative McIlvaine -Smith
Sponsored by:

Puppy mills should be eliminated because of the major problem they pose, not only to the dogs, but to the general welfare of specific breeds. Also known as backyard breeding, puppy mills occur when dogs are breed excessively. The inhumane breeding puts the puppies at a greater risk of becoming ill from genetic diseases such as heart disease.

In December, 2005 I visited a puppy mill in Oxford, Pa. At the time I was unaware that I would be visiting a puppy mill, but as soon as I saw the "house" I was given directions to I immediately knew it was not the place I should get my new puppy.

A small pen was outside the house and a foul odor was lingering I the air. As soon as I went into the house I knew something was not right, the floor was covered in animal feces. There were small bins set up around the room. One look at the small puppies and I was about to cry. Some had broken limbs and al of them had clouded eyes. When I spoke to the man in charge he informed me that he gave them his own shots. (None of the puppies had even seen a vet) I was surprised at the horrific conditions they had to live in. This was only one case of the cruelty animals go through at puppy mills.

About a month later the ASPCA rescued over 333 dogs were confiscated. The men were hardly convicted to the crime.

They should pay dearly for what they had done. Please help me try to raise the concern for puppy mills by signing this petition to outlaw puppy mills once and for all.

I bought a puppy from Wagon Wheel ranch in New Lexington, Ohio. I beleive that it is in fact a puppymill. I thought it was a rescue. I ended up having to put my beloved puppy down 4 days after having him. That ended up costing more than what i paid for my dear Captain Jack. He was taken away from me by Parvo. His little body wasn't able to fight it off. Thanks.

I feel that puppy mills are just cruel and wrong! This isuue has been going on too long now! Too many people think this issue isn't a big deal, because it doesn't effect their everyday lives. if only people would take the time to look into puppy mills they would not approve!

I think you might want to try to make your petition stand out more. The petition itself is good, but you might want to try to include more facts and more images of puppies in the puppy mills.

There is a puppy mill right around the corner from me. They keep the puppies in a barn and they literally have to walk on top of each other it is so crowded.

You don't need to improve anything.

Puppy mills must be put out of business. Those who run them are just in it for their own greed, not the best interests of the animals.Adopt from a shelter and save lives.

I feel that puppy mills are a tragedy against a helpless species. There should be no irresponsible dog breeding. I got my beloved dog from a pet store several years ago, and although he is in perfect health, I know he came from a puppy mill, because I researched the address on his "papers", and it came up as an empty field in Missouri.

The only ones who benefit are the breeders, no compassion or love for the animals, the only thing that matters is money. Since the Oprah show aired in April of 2008 showing the neglect & abuse these breeders put the dogs through it has brought a great deal of awarenesss to the public about breeders. The Governor of Pennsylvania is cracking down on this, the show that Oprah did was about breeders in Lancaster. Pa. A nation is judged by how it treats it's animals & these breeders give our nation a bad reputation. Puppy Mills need to be shut down for the inhumane, cruel way they treat these animals.

THIS IS SUCH CRUELTY. NO ANIMAL DESERVE TO BE TREATED LIKE THIS AT ALL. PUPPY MILL OWNERS SHOULD BE SERIOUSLY PUNISHED AND PUT OUT OF BUISNESS. THIS AMOUNT OF CRUELTY TO THESE POOR ANIMALS IS UNEXPLAINABLE. IT HURTS ME HEART SEVERLY TO SEE THIS HAPPENIN TO SUCH BEAUTIFUL AND SWEET CREATURES.

INCOURAGE THOS AROUND YOU TO SIGN THE PETITION TO HELP STOP THIS MADNESS.

I detest puppy mills. Lets not forget about the smaller "breeders" with say less than 50 dogs who live their lives day in and day out in crates just slightly bigger than the dog who lives inside. The premises stink. The dogs have only 20 minutes per day to get a drink and be outside. With little or no human contact by the kennel person changing the papers in the crate. I have a breeder in mind but do not wish to publish the name of said kennel in this forum. Give dog law more teeth and make the penalties very stiff.

I have never paid a breeder before for a pet, I have always gone to shelters to adopt for this very reason, you never know who or what cruelty you are supporting with your purchase? I hope this petition leads to more guidelines in place to prevent such abuse!

Only licensed breeders should breed and they should be limited to the number of litters a bitch is able to have. The license should be at state level, but it would be nice to see it as federal. They should be inspected as well as fined when laws aren't followed. Botton line: stricter laws need to be enforced and licenses should have higher guidlines to follow. We need to look out for the best interest of the animals as well as the families who buy them.

Puppy mills are absolutely inhumane. In Louisiana our legislators are too "busy" naming official coctails to deal with puppy mill legislation--how sad is that???

I think this is so wrong! It should be illegal. How come gay marriage is banned but cruelty to animals is not. It breaks my heart. No animal deserves this. Dogs are the sweetest animals. They are our best friends. Everyone should sign this.

I bought my puppy at a pet store mr.puppy in tyrone mall in st pete fl 7 years ago.I had no idea at the time my puppy came from a puppy mill i didnt even know anything about them.Well i soon found out that i had a very very sick little puppy he had intestinal parasites ,ear mites, ear infections, blood in his stool,he could keep any food down, he was dying.I took him to the vet and it took close to 3 thousand dollars to keep him alive.I called the pet store and told them .There response was that they would replace my puppy with another one. They treated it like my sweet little puppy was an appliance that i bought and didnt work.Of coarse i didnt take them up on there offer i loved my little dog and i knew they would just kill him they were heartless.I then started to research were these animals come from at the pet store and i was horrified. How cruel and in humane. These poor little animals lived lifes full off suffering. How could a human be so cruel to helpless animals who all they want is some one to love them and they can love back.Well its time for all people to stand up and fight and drive these monsters out of buissness. It breaks my heart .We all see on the news these terrible acts of cruely and violence committed against helpless animals and we dont want to watch becuase its to painfull to see. WELL ITS TIME TO OPEN OUR EYES AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.I urge anyone with a with a heart to get involved in any and every way to stop this.My sweet little puppy is now 7 years old and i am so thankfull that im the one who picked him out becuase im not so sure if he went home with someone else they would have made the finacial commitment to get him healthy. And i am not a wealthy person.I hope my experience will possible change someones mind about buying a pet at a pet store .Go to a shelter and rescue a pet trust me they know your rescuing them you will be there hero and the will love you for the rest of there lives.

I think that this situation is disgusting. These animals don't deserve this treatment, they are helpless and innocent and all they want is love and affection. My dog Lucy was an abused puppy before I rescued her. She didn't come from a puppy mill, but she experienced the same type of conditions. She was 2 months old when I rescued her from the abusive home she was in and she is now 15 months. She is a very loving and sweet dog now, even though she has a few trust issues with males. You can look in her eyes and tell she is so grateful for being saved. I am so happy that there are people who go and rescue these dogs from puppy mills and give them a good home, one that they so deserve. To the ones who are rescuing these innocent animals.. Keep up the Good Work!!
