say no to uranium mining in British Columbia or the Kettle River watershed

Uranium Mining: Say No in Kettle River Headwaters

Target:
British Columbia Government
Sponsored by:

In April 2008 the Provincial Government of British Columbia announced an effective Moratorium (a no registration reserve) on uranium mining in the Province and stated that: "all uranium deposits will remain undeveloped"
In October 2008 Boss Power Corp/Blizzard Uranium Corp filed a damages lawsuit against the Province and it has been reported that the Province's statement of defense says the reserve doesn't apply to Boss/Blizzard.
We call on the Provincial Government and the Ministry of Mines to confirm that the Moratorium (no registration reserve) still applies throughout the Province and that no uranium or thorium mining will be permitted in the Kettle River watershed.

Background on this and other threats to the Kettle River can be
found at: http://www.boundaryalliance.org/

The fact is that uranium mining is extremely damaging to the environment and that damage is not reversible.

All uranium should be kept in the ground. In these hard economic times we must be extra watchful to ensure that industry harmful to our environment and health not be given the go ahead. It seems our government can no longer be trusted in securing our lands and watersheds and keep them from being exploited by private interests who care little for social benefit. Protect our planet from our economy.

I do not support the proposal to allow uranium mining in the Kettle River watershed. There is inadequate information and research available that supports this type of project and the damage it can cause to the environment in this are.

The Kettle river is a small part of a large watershed in BC-flowing south to the US into the Coloumbia river basin. This decision could affect many lives.

We must investigate damages caused by existing mines in Canada and look to positive sources of renewable energy.
