Dog Run At Smith Park

Off-leash dog run in Smith Park on Western Ave. in Allston.

Target:
Mark Ciomo and the Boston Parks Department

To Representative Ciomo and the Boston Parks Department,

I support the creation of a new fenced in off-leash dog run in Smith Park on Western Ave. in Allston.
Off-leash dog runs provide a place for dogs to socialize with each other, getting the physical and mental exercise they need to be good companions and good neighbors.

Benefits of a Dog Run:
Discourages the dog waste problem
Well-exercised dogs are much quieter, less destructive neighbors .

In addition, the dog run will benefit the community in many ways:
Dog parks keep the animals away from children and people who don't like them.
They help keep other public spaces free of feces
They promote responsible pet ownership
Well-socialized dogs are less aggressive towards people and other dogs
For elderly and disabled people, a dog park is often the only accessible place to bring their companions to socialize
They foster community feeling -- dog park users get to know each other well,
Keeps dogs out of exsisting playing fields,
Dog parks are desirable neighborhood amenities for newcomers

Sincerely,

I would love to be able to take my pups for a run when we're up visiting family. They need a FENCED IN good, close, clean dog park.

I've been living in the neighborhood for several years and feel that this would be a huge gift to the dog loving community. In prior times, we've been verbally attacked and even had baseballs hit at us while walking our dog. A dog designated area would be diffuse any animosity that non-dog people might have towards us. Thanks!

As a dog owner, I would love to know that I have a safe, enclosed place to bring her. City life is hard for a dog, as there is a shortage of enclosed, open space for them to run in. A dog park would be extremely beneficial and would greatly increase a sense of community. I have only owned my dog for 9 months and already I have met many more people in my neighborhood than in the previous five years, and I am happy that I live in a place where I can say "hi" to people as I walk down the street.

RESIDENTS NEED A SECURE AREA IN THE PARK TO LET THE DOGS RUN.

This would be a great asset to the park and dog owners - there are lots in Brighton/Allston.
