I've met some really sweet pitbulls, and the only dog I have ever been bitten by was a poodle. Hmmm.

I have many different breeds of dogs that I own. Not one of them is violent. I suggest you go after the owner who mistreat dogs so that they become violent.

Are Dangerous Dogs Breed Specific?? Please Understand; There really is no such thing as an inherently dangerous breed of dog -- people train dogs to become dangerous. This has been proven time and time again. The only laws we need enacted are the ones that place full and primary responsibility for a dog's behavior on the owner, regardless of breed. We do not want to punish responsible dog owners and innocent dogs. If a bill is passed that eliminates certain breeds, such as pit bulls, and rotweillers, next will come the German sheperds, St.Bernards, mastifs, American bull terriors, boxers, fox terriors, even Labrador retrievers! yes, I've even heard people say that Labs could be dangerous! It is out of hand. Little by little, more and more breeds will be in danger of being banned from our counties and states. The responsibility lies with the dog owners to train and properly bring up their pets, just as they would their children. Any dog can be loving, loyal, and well behaved if given proper training. So please, we urge you NOT to let HB101 pass. Thank you.

Nevertheless, they can be kept as family pets. While friendliness and tolerance towards humans are traits of the breed [4], there are those that are dangerous toward humans, but such is the case with most dog breeds. Many attacks by other dog breeds are misclassified as "Pit Bulls" by media reports.[7]A followup to the study published in 2000 by Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association suggested that "generic non–breed-specific, dangerous dog laws can be enacted that place primary responsibility for a dog’s behavior on the owner, regardless of the dog’s breed. In particular, targeting chronically irresponsible dog owners may be effective."[35.The State of Florida, Statute 767.14 [64] forbids local governments in Florida from enacting breed specific laws unless the law was in place before October 1, 1990. Several communities, including Miami-Dade County, Florida had such laws in place before the law took effect and Pit Bull ownership is banned there.````````````Irresponsible ownership can have a great impact on how a breed is represented in attack statistics.Huntsville, Alabama police raided a dog-fighting arena on 28 February 2002 and seized 10 Pit Bulls. The city's attempt to legally euthanize four Pit Bull puppies, never trained to fight, was stopped by Madison County Circuit Court Judge Joe Battle, who ruled that the Pit Bull puppies were not dangerous by virtue of their genetics alone (AP Wire; 6 April 2002).The true "pit dogs" have excellent attitudes towards humans and show aggression to other animals and other dogs in some cases.Positive press Some work in hospitals and care facilities as certified therapy dogs, many are well-loved family pets, and some have even saved people's lives. There are many instances of Pit Bulls being productively employed by U.S. Customs [69], as police K9s.[70] Often, Pit Bulls have been reported to "adopt" other species of animals (such as kittens or squirrels). This is one possible origin of the breed nickname "nanny dog".[71] However, it is more widely accepted that the "nanny dog" nickname comes from Pit Bull-type dogs' innate love and tolerance of children. A rescued Pit Bull called Popsicle is a United States Customs dog, and is famous for sniffing out one of the biggest cocaine busts in history. [72] In February, 2006, New Yorker magazine writer Malcolm Gladwell published an article surveying the research on Pit Bulls which concluded that legal attempts to ban the breed were both crude and unnecessary. [73] In February 2007 a Pit Bull named "Chief" rescued his family of humans from a spitting cobra by dashing in front of the attacking snake and taking the deadly bite himself. Chief subdued the snake but died of the venom 30 minutes later. [74] In April 2007, columnist John Canzano of The Oregonian newspaper wrote a favorable piece on Hollywood, the Pit Bull that formerly belonged to NBA player Qyntel Woods. [75] Hollywood, renamed Stella, was adopted by a loving owner and reformed from a fighting dog to a lap dog. Nearly fifty Pit Bulls were seized from Michael Vick's dogfighting operation in 2007. Of those dogs, one was euthanized because of aggression issues. About half were sent to Best Friends Animal Society, a Utah animal sanctuary, where they are receiving care and behavioral training. The others, which were behaviorally evaluated as being suitable candidates for adoption, went to various other groups. Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pit Bulls (BAD RAP), transported thirteen of these dogs in an RV across the United States to Oakland, California, where they were placed in adoptive and foster homes. [76]. BAD RAP detailed the timeline of the dogs progress, from initial evaluations to fostering and adoption, on its website. [77]

Everyone should have a chance..Dogs don't make dogs mean, People make dogs mean. Most of the dogs that have attacked people are from being trained to do so or have been provoked by immature people. Pit Bulls are very sweet and loving animals that deserve as much as a chance as all the careless people that get off the hook in this world.

This is just ignorance on peoples part. When someone gets in a fight they are sent to jail or if charges arn't pressed then they go home but when a dog protects itself or even is only trained to fight then we put it down when it can be reabilitated. Blame owners not the breeds. Do the right thing VOTE NO

I am a Veterinarian in the Bay area and think that banning any pet due to it's breed is simply ridiculous. Not only do we see numerous "vicious" breeds in our clinic, but the "non-vicious" breeds are always the ones that end up biting. This ban is necessary to protect our rights as humans to be held responsible instead of inaccurately accusing pets as the problem. A new born baby is a blank slate to be brought up by it's parents to be the best it can be. This should be the same for pets. It is the owners or "parents" responsibility to teach any breed, "vicious" or "non-vicious" to become a well socialized, kind, and gentle member of society. Unfortunately, there are too many irresponsible OWNERS that need to be held accountable for their dogs actions.

I have a 2 year old pit that is honestly the most amazing dog I have ever met. He loves the company of all dogs and humans and he also does lots of tricks like fetching water bottles from the fridge. The most amazing thing about him is the way he makes me feel. He is one of my best friends and and when things are not going well he always makes me feel better. He has shown me the true meaning of unconditional love. Please do not allow anyone to ban my best friend.

I have a female pit bull who i got full grown and have had her for about 5 years i also have a 4 yr old son who loves this dog so much when my son was learning how to walk he would hold her tail and she would walk him around the yard. now hes almost 5 and they play tag in the yard and run around like crazy people. sometimes i love the dog more them anyone else as you know kids and a husband tend to get under your skin at times. she sits on my lap like she is only 5lbs. instead of her 90lbs self but i love her more then any other dog i have ever had and i WILL NOT GIVE HER UP i will lock her in my house before ANYONE will take her from me. not only do dogs have teeth and anyone of them will bit if messed with or picked at but if they fell threatened they are just like humans we do things to protect ourselfs to . it also has alot to do with the owner and how they are raise. but even a little ankle bitter will tear your behind up not just pit bull. so please give it some thought dont pass this stupid bill

The dogs are not the problem it's the people that are making them aggresive they should be held responsible on an individual basis. Not banning entire breeds because of what the owners or breeders are doing to them.

You shouldn't be able to ban certain breeds. It is discrimination. The only dog that I have ever been bitten by was a cocker spaniel. Little dogs attack more than big dogs but just because they are smaller and the damage is less. They should ban the ignorant people who own dogs and don't know how to take care of them. I am a responsible owner of a rottweiler and pitt bull. I guess I love the breeds that most people think are bad so that I can show others that they are GOOD DOGS!

I am a PROUD owner of 2 Pitt Bulls! They are my children, my love, and my joy. I can't imagine losing them. I feel this is discrimination and unconstitutional. I am the first to admit, yes there is a problem with aggressive dogs, but you can't blame Pitt Bulls soley, you need to blame the owners of these dogs for being irresponsible. There are more dog bites from small dogs such as Pomeranians and Yorkies, than Pitt Bulls, but the bite doesn't hurt as bad so no one reports those instances. Now thats no excuse but think about it. The owners of Pitt Bulls who fight their dogs or abuse them are either using them as guard dogs to protect their "merchandise" or to gamble money. Maybe if the police and gov't officials worked harder on saving our communities from gangs, drugs, and other illegal circumstances, then they can have a better handle of who owns these dogs. I have socialized my dogs from day one. I trust my dogs around an infants more than I would trust a person. They are gentle and loving creatures who deserve a good home and a responsible owner. I thought the time of segregation and inequlity was over. Didn't MLK make those changes 40 yrs ago. Come on people, this is ridiculous. How can an animal shelter pass a Pitt Bull on evaluation for adoption, charges a consumer to adopt them and then tell them now you have to get rid of them. What's really going on? Here we are as citizen trying to help the situation by sheltering these abandoned and abused pets who YOU, the gov't, passed as okay to be around children and families, and then you FORCE us to kill them or move out of state. YOUR NUTS!!! Please sign this petition EVERYONE, my dogs lives depend on it. Shoot...my dogs will just become "Terriers" of some sort if this passes!! Love and Peace everyone!!

I am the owner of a couple pt bull mixes and I am friends with ours who have pit bulls, rotties, and other "supposed dangerous breeds" of dogs. I say BS !!! A dog is born to be aggressive its raised to be. Banning certain breeds of dogs is discrimination. I know I was taught to never discriminate and I'm sure I'm not the only one that was taught that. My dogs are family and I thought Florida laws state that we have the right to protect our family. How am I suppose to do that when they want me to get rid of them due to their breed. My kids can be unruly, do I need to get rid of them or ban them too? I rescued my one pit mix from the pound the day before he was to put down and I'm not about to let anyone try to hurt him. I've hed him for 5 years now and he's as much family as my kids are!! If anything should be done it should be that certain people shouldn't be allowed to own certain breeds. I've seen more ankle biters that are mean then bigger "supposed" dangerous breeds. Are we gonna ban those too? I pay my my taxes and I pay my house insurance. I love and care for my dogs and I don't think my dogs, kids or I should be punished because of how other people don't raise their dogs the right way. All animals are living breathing individuals so who the hell are we to ban them? I'm mean and aggressive are they gonna ban me too?

I have 4 pit bulls right now that are my children. I am a vet tech and work with all different breeds, pit bulls have always been the friendliest that come in. It's all about how they are raised. I beleive people should be punished for their actions just as parents should be with their children. If you want to pass a law for dog aggression issues then make people have a license to own pets, those people who have aggressive pit bulls obviously don't know how to care for or socialize an animal. They train them to be that way, pit bulls are just like any other dog. Their only flaw is they are extremely loyal and will do ANYTHING to please its master, even if it means to fight to the death. People create dog problems, dogs don't! PLEASE DO NOT PASS THIS BILL, DO THE RESEARCH! BSL LAWS NEVER WORKED IN THE PAST THAT THEY NEVER WILL!!!

I have been a dog trainer for more than 20 years. I am one of the few in my area that will work with and has success with dogs with aggression problems. In my practice, the vast majority of dogs who threaten or bite people and other dogs are not of the so called "dangerous" breeds. Overwhelmingly the real "dangerous" dogs are small and spoiled. Breed specific legislation is just racism with fur. The current dangerous dog laws already in place are sufficient if they were enforced. Perhaps the introduction of legislation to make the owner of a biting dog of whatever breed subject to criminal prosecution as well as civil liability might give it more "teeth".

As a proud owner of a well-behaved and extremely loving am staff, this legislation breaks my heart. You will not find a more loving breed-ask my one year old as well. This legislation needs to be stopped-it is not the answer to stopping dog attacks. Any breed can act aggressively depending on an inhumane upbringing. What would be better is a law eliminating chained dogs or dogs kept outside the home--any breed.

My husband and I agree with the thousands who are opposing this law that will ban specific dog breeds. We both have never met a dog we didn't like...wish we could say that about some of the people we have met--maybe we should ban them. Seriously, we believe as so many others out there that it is up to the dog owners to not only train but supervise their dogs at all times, especially when they are out in the open. While we are supervising our dogs, parents must supervise their children when they are around dogs. How many times have we heard on the news that a dog is on "death row" for biting, mauling or unfortunately killing someone-- how many of us have actually seen what lead up to that incident. In many cases it was the human who taunted, injured or frightened the dog. Recently, we were at a SPCA facility when we spoke to a woman who was forced by her HOA to get rid of her dog that she had raised from the age of 6 weeks, she was so traumatized and heartbroken. Her dog, part Pit was so sweet and gentle. I was outraged to hear that it was the doing of one woman who thought the dog would agress upon her. I too cried with that woman. Like we said maybe we should ban those mean, cruel, and heartless people out there who cannot mind their own business. Often times these people are so full of self- inflected misery that they have to push it onto others. Hopefully our voices will be heard a no dog breeds will be signaled out.

Education of pet owners and cracking down on illegal dog fights, with real jail time for offenders is the answer. Outlawing a specific breed will just cause offenders to train other dogs to be aggressive. We need legislature to punish humans, not innocent animals who are abused by them.
