Pledge to plant a tree in Africa with Tree-Nation in 2008!

This year let´s Act against Climate Change! Everyone of us can do something simple, like planting a tree! This petition is to pledge that in 2008 we´ll all plant at least one tree in Niger with Tree-Nation!

Help us to plant our large-scale park in Niger, the poorest country in the world. Africa, and especially its Sub-Saharan part, is the area that is most affected by desertification and poverty, which is why we are concentrating our efforts in this region. This petition will benefit local populations in terms of welfare, education and farming practices. On the photos below the text you can see  that we cooperate with the Nigerians, we  work closely with local communities, nurseries and organizations and create the best possible environment for the trees to grow steadily.

Niger, one of the world's poorest countries, has been especially hard hit by the collapse of the uranium market and is dependent on subsistence farming as the backbone of its economy. A high population growth rate puts pressure of the few remaining forest lands. Consequently, between 1990 and 2005, the country lost 679,000 hectares or 34.9 percent of its forest cover.

In Niger, formerly forested lands are plagued with soil loss and desertification. The Sahara desert, which already covers two-thirds of the country, is expanding at a rate of 200,000 hectares annually. In an effort to slow the Saraha's progress, the government planted more than 60 million trees between 1985 and 1997.

As of 2003, about 8 percent of Niger's land area was protected, but poaching and habitat loss are taking a heavy toll on the country's wildlife.

I, the undersigned, pledge to plant a tree in Niger with the help of Tree-Nation. By planting trees I help to combat the process of deforestation in Niger and regenerate the productivity of the land, in the one of the poorest countries of the world.

I also pledge to support this iniciative by encouraging my friends and family to plant trees in Niger. I believe this is an investment in a better future for the African people and our planet in general.
