Police Brutality

On Friday May 2nd Sgt. Plater and Officer Harris Of the Morningside Police Department  brutaly beat 17 year old Tyrell Boxley, breaking a police baton over his head/back and spraying him down with mace after he failed to obey an order given to him by officer Harris to get on the sidewalk and show the officer his I.D. Boxley was held overnight at the P.G. county hospital  after sustaining severe injuries to the right side of his face. In the weeks prior to this incident on April 18 Officer Plater from the same Morningside Police Deparment beat 2 girls and threatened to break the arm of a 15 year old boy after the boy threw water on one of his friends while playing in front of his house. The boy and the two girls became involved in a verbal confrontation with the officer after he got involved in a situation that he had no place being. Officer Plater punched one of the girls in the chest and face and the repeatedly slammed the other girl onto the hood of his police car. These police have become accustomed to using abusive force in situations that dont require such methods. After being instructed by the mayor of Morningside to keep the children off the streets they have come to instill a sense of fear into the young people of this small community where they should be feel protected. The youths are constantly profiled into groups of drug sellers and thugs that many of them have no association with often resulting in run-ins with the law that force them into the court system for crimes incited by the police themselves. The police have gone from protecting our community to crudely attacking it's youth. This has to STOP, these are the signs of a corrupted force that needs reform.
