Politicians pay cuts

Many companies are trying to cope with the recession that our country has found itself in by forcing their employees to take pay cuts, extra days off and even laying many employees off . Many American's have lost their jobs and have been forced to take much lower paying jobs to survive.

While services for the poor and needy are needed more now than ever before, States; Counties; and Cities are themselves in financial distress and being forced to reduce the monies for the services that are so desperately needed. Not only Social programs are suffering though, even the most essential services such as police, postal, schools and fire departments are in jeopardy of losing the funds required to effectively continue. In many states and cities the lower level of Government workers are being required to take extra days off to reduce their pay, many of these workers make little more than minimum wage.

In the midst of all this our Politicians & Upper level Government workers, Civil Servants of the American public, are earning many times more than the average American. These are the people who have over the last numerous years voted for their own pay raises numerous times and made available many more tax payers dollars for activities that at times are outrages.

We the people are being asked to take wage freezes, wage cuts and losing our jobs, while the people that are being paid with our tax dollars and who are putting a huge burden on our State and local economies are making extravagant wages.

It is time our Upper level Government Employees and Politicians share the same hardships as the rest of the country and take at the very least a 5% -10% pay cut and a reduction in the monies available to them for non-essential activities, to help our country get back on its feet.

When our Cities and States began having financial problems these persons should have stood up and voluntarily taken a reduction for themselves and any member of their staff making more than $70,000. A year, but as this did not happen, we the citizens of the United States should band together and call for this action.
