Protect Endangered Species - Strengthen CITES

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, CITES, went into force in 1975.  The illegal trade threatening endangered species is compounded by loopholes that still allow trade in species whose existence is tenuous.

CITES  need to tighten up it's trade prohibitions.  End the questions on how endangered species items are obtained.  Eradicate the loopholes that allow exceptions to endangered species trade prohibitions.

We the undersigned want to protect endangered species.  We feel the current efforts need to be strengthened and look to you to provide leadership in this effort.

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, CITES, went into force in 1975.  The illegal trade threatening endangered species is compounded by loopholes that still allow trade in species whose existence is tenuous.

CITES  need to tighten up it's trade prohibitions.  It is more difficult to end poaching and illegal trade when they can hide behind the 'legal' trades.  Forged document, bribes and other easy methods can mask these items as CITES permitted exemptions.   End the questions on how endangered species items are obtained.  Eradicate the loopholes that allow exceptions to endangered species trade prohibitions.

Please make the United States lead the effort to end all trade in endangered species.  Too many exceptions have been made.  Research whaling is a prime example of a government cover up  by nations including Japan, Iceland and Norway.  Prepare for the next round of CITES.  Present a strong statement to close the loopholes, protect the species and end the 'legal' trade.

We understand the burdens facing you and appreciate that you take the time to listen to our concerns.  Let those to whom you delegate this responsibility know that you agree with protecting the most vulnerable species on our planet.   Thank you for giving us hope.
