Tom Epler, Owner of L-Bar-T Bison Ranch in Forest Grove, says no to HB 3058

Protect Land and Business Owners: No to HB 3058

Target:
Oregon State Senator Bruce Starr
Oregon House Bill 3058 threatens one of the most basic writes of Oregon citizens: the right to private property which no one can take away without giving just compensation and proving eminent domain.  HB 3058 would allow companies, including out-of-state energy speculators, to begin invasive work on private land before eminent domain has been granted.  We need Senator Bruce Starr to vote no on this misguided bill if it comes up for a vote in the Oregon Senator.  If you own or represent a business in western Washington County, or are a land owner earning income off your property, sign below to let Senator Starr know that HB 3058 is a threat to the small business owners of his district.Oregon House Bill 3058 threatens one of the most basic writes of Oregon citizens: the right to private property which no one can take away without giving just compensation and proving eminent domain.  HB 3058 would allow companies, including out-of-state energy speculators, to begin invasive work on private land before eminent domain has been granted.  We need Senator Bruce Starr to vote no on this misguided bill if it comes up for a vote in the Oregon Senator.  If you own or represent a business in western Washington County, or are a land owner earning income off your property, sign below to let Senator Starr know that HB 3058 is a threat to the small business owners of his district.

As a land owner or small business representative in Washington County, I strongly urge you to oppose House Bill 3058, should this bill come up for a vote in the Oregon Senate.  HR 3058 is an affront to the property rights of owners of small businesses across the state of Oregon, and has so far been pushed largely by a few key individuals in the legislative leadership, who to fail to understand the importance of protecting private property rights for all Oregonians.  By opening the way for companies, including out-of-state energy speculators, to begin invasive activities on private land before even obtaining eminent domain for a project, HR 3058 threatens the basic tenets of private land ownership which have enabled many small businesses in Washington County to thrive.

I hope I can count on you to oppose HR 3058 if this bill comes up for a vote in the Senate.

We are small landowners in the line of the proposed LNG pipeline. This bill would strip us our our right to live on our land without trespass. THis bill is illegal! You simply cannot allow trespass and violation of private property like this.

Hi Senator Starr, WE don't need this pipeline or the gas. The awful disturbance of our county and landscape could not be worth any benefit accrued from this for-profit endeavor. WE need to put our efforts towards non-fossil fuel economies and technology. Thanks, Kevin

I have acreage in the foothills of the Coast Range and strongly oppose the proposed LNG terminals and pipelines. HB3058 is a bad idea. We run a design business from our home that employs two people as well as managing a small-scale sustainable timber operation. I urge you to support landowners, farmers and foresters who oppose the LNG pipelines. Say no to speculators that hope for short term gain. We can solve our energy problems through conservation, wind, solar, biomass, tidal and other technologies. We will become energy independent not by giving our land and resources away, but by working together, working hard to develop our own resources. I urge you to vote no on HB3058.

We own and manage 140 acres of timberland that would be crossed by the OregonLNG pipeline, resulting in the loss of 3000 trees on very steep slopes that are subject to frequent landslides. In December 2008 we witnessed a massive landslide within a few hundred feet of the proposed pipeline route. Routing 36-inch nonodorized gas pipelines through sensitive and unstable areas of the Coast Range is a recipe for disaster. Our larger concern, however, is the negative effect of importation of LNG on energy price stability and our country's energy independence. These projects are purely speculative, because the current glut of domestic natural gas supply has entirely negated any need for these destructive projects. HB 3058 represents the abuse of government power to facilitate speculative private projects that harm Oregon's core industries of forestry, farming and fishing, while they undermine our national interest. We are counting on you to see through the special interest smokescreen and defend your constituents and our state from this fossil fuel industry powerplay.

As a landowner in the "blast zone" of two potential LNG pipelines, I am greatly concerned about the safety issues. Yet my greatest concerns are for the healtlh of the Columbia River ecosystems that the presence of huge LNG tankers would denigrate. My second-tiered concerns are for all landowners, including farmers and vineyard owners, whose lands would be condemned by eminent domain, a process that was instituted not for private companies to exploit but for governmental authority. We are at an environmental crossroads as we grapple with the polluting and consequent warming of the earth; surely we should be investing in renewable energy sources and prompting all individuals to conserve. The pro-LNG movement is a naked grab for money at the expense of ecological health and private landowners. It is a stain on the conscience of those who endorse it and legislators and commissioners who blindly follow moneyed interests.

I have a small farm in northern Yamhill county. The pipeline would traverse the best vineyard area on my property. The unique soils in this area produce grapes that can be marketed to and used by Washington county vintners.

I own my own business and small landowners and farmers should continue to be protected from large multinational corporations who use their money to get what they want. Their profits are not more important than an American citizens rights.

My wife, our three adult children and my self own and operate a 500 acre tree farm which will be impacted by two seperate proposed 36 inch LNG pipe lines. Property rights is right at the top of the list that American citizens have cherished since the founding of our country! As if the act of eminent domain was not bad enough now we have HB 3058 which is meant to supersede the horrid act of eminent domain! All of this for what? A few temporary jobs, I think the energy speculators would consider crumbs compared to the BILLIONS OF DOLLARS they plan and hope to make. What about the rights of we tax paying Oregonians who elected people to protect our rights!

I am owner of a tree farm and nursery in Washington County and owner of a consulting firm specializing in energy and horticulture. The LNG proposals are not good for Oregon business and very harmful to important rural industries along the pipeline route. HB 3058 fast tracks LNG pipelines without first proving that we actually need these proposals.

I am the co-owner of both these businesses and am a retired energy company executive.
