Animals in the middle East are neglected, treated with cruelty and the issue of strays is treated in the cruelest manners, they are shot in broad daylight in the middle of the streets by government officials, many times left in the streets to bleed to death. Donkeys, horses and mules are made to pull really heavy carts in the middle of traffic and many times beaten to death when they can't move.
Shelters are doing what they can but it is overwhelming, they need serious back-up from international organisations, whether it be pushing the legislations more in favour of animal rights, funding, donating, sending experts...anything.
