REFORM CHILD SUPPORT LAWS

REFORM CHILD SUPPORT LAWS

Target:
STATE REPRESENTATIVES
Sponsored by:
Current child support laws are in desperate need of revamping.  Divorced mothers with sole custody of their children are the largest part of the population living at or below the poverty line.  Especially those mothers whose children have disabilities.  In this case, child support should continue beyond the age of majority to help ease the burden placed on the mother.  After all, the child is as much the responsibility of the father as he/she is of the mother.  Help me initiate much needed change.

This Site is a Joke, what about men who are working hard to support their family. Why are men being railroad in court rooms every day because this system allows women to have custody solely because they are women. Why are women incomes not being factored into child support payments? It’s the responsibility of both parents to support these kids. Men don't have any rights.

I'm disables and in the end I'm could pay $21,000 in child support after 3.5 years and they determined I made $24,000. My daughter also got $16,000 from SSI. Now the law says only 18% of wages. This is a out of control issue here. I need to be protected by new laws that protect me from getting shafted. I'll pay my 18% like I did when I was working. Went 3.5 years having no income to now haveing to pay another 4 years of taking out $540a month while I get $714 I wnet through 3.5 years of hell and I don't need another 4 yrears of hell. TOtal paid would be $37,000 for child support while I earned 3,000 for 3.5 years, let's get real people. THis is where it has gone.

my ex has been on unemployment for getting in a fight with an employee so the employer felt sorry for him and lied about the story and said they laid him off. then he lost his unemployment after a year and a half and stopped paying child support. we have been to court every 6 weeks because he said hes looking for a job and the courts believed him yet they never made him show them a ob search packet THEY gave him. finally he hired an attorney, whom i wonder how he paid for since he cant pay child support he says, and got it continued again and again. the judges are letting him slide constantly and im sick of it because it is hurtin me and my kids financially. then he just went to court and showed employment and we have to go back again to court to see if he told them the truth and get wage withholding yet they didnt enforce he still owes going on 4 months of back child support. Wheres the help they say they are giving to us poor custodial parents that still pay for their kids no matter what yet the deadbeat parent gets off scot free??? HELP!!! this man not only doesnt pay support but is an adulterer and has gotten away with that too. the courts in NC seem to be for the criminal instead of the victim. something needs to change for all of us victims and im happy to sign this petition and please send it to a senator or someone that may care.!!

Laws for single working parents of disabled children where employers get tax incentives to help maintain adequate employment in the face of health care and home issues for their children when the parent needs time off to care for them. If disabled people were treated indifferently they are able to complain about disabilty violations against them if the employer fires them, why can't parent's of disabled children do the same if they need employment to help offset financial burdens they face alone?

I agree completely. Not only the mothers of disabled children but mothers of children with dead beat dads really need some changes made to the child support system

I am disbelief that this law is continuing to ruin lives!! It makes no sense to suspend the license of people who owe back child support, but are paying current payments .

My ex was finally convicted of a class D felony!!! Unfortunately he still will not pay a dime and nothing will ever happen to him " because the jails are to full" so he has been walking around making 3 MORE babies he is not paying for. And each mother is on some sort of gov't assistance! The deficit is directly connected to DEADBEAT PARENTS!!!

My child has disabilities that will require that he have long-term assistance with financial matters, tax, and legal forms. He has heart disease (2 surgeries) and developmental delay's. Recently he he has also developed emotional problems. We are about to move from NH to Maine. My ex lives in PA and is VERY well off. I am in Real Estate and have been hit hard by the recession losing nearly all my savings. I want my son to try some community college classes with tutor's as he did well in high school with aid's and he also needs to see a neuro-psychiatrist, a counselor, and a behavioral specialist. PA continued support based on writ I sent in including documentation of my son's IQ scores (74) and other disability evidence. His father has requested a hearing to have the support stopped. I cannot afford an attorney and he can afford the best. What's the chance of PA continuing the child support? My ex and i do not talk and he abandoned our child when he was 11, resulting in more expensive counseling bills paid by me. He could help our son tremendously but will the court make him?

As a US citizen living abroad and as a single parent, I fully endorse this type of petition. I had to bring up my two kids alone, without any type of financial support from the father, in a country where child support laws are rarely enforced. But it's different in the States so it's important to endorse this initiative so children of single-parent homes can have better opportunities!

My son reached 18 years of age this year and he had so many hopes of going to college however, since the law does not require for his father to pay any child support he will not be able to continue his studies unless he gets into debt with a student loan. However, his father has the means to help him financially but he won't do it because the law here in Florida states that once 18 years of age he no longer has to pay. As a single mother I will have to support my child on my own . Many states like New York changed the age of majority to 21 as long as they are studying or are disabled this should be applied to Florida as well. We as single mothers are not being helped at all.

Child support laws MUST be changed. Many Men/Woman that are supposed to pay child support just disappear until the child is 18 and get away with never paying. When someone owes child support they did'nt pay the child after age 18 should have the right to take that parent to court to collect child support they never received!!!!
