Remove all traffic cameras in Temple Terrace

The City of Temple Terrace, Florida had grand plans to renovate a shopping center into new and elaborate government offices for the very small city. The city had a referendum, and voters voted against the new city offices. So the city council met, and decided to overrule the voters. In an effort to raise money to pay for the government complex, extra traffic tickets have been issued, and traffic cameras have been installed. These traffic cameras are in violation of the citizens' right to privacy, and represent an overly greedy city government that wishes to tax citizens by accusing them at every turn. Traffic cameras in many cities, including Greensboro, NC have been found to be in violation of the rights of drivers, and should be removed. Update: The city recently sold the building they had planned to renovate because they could not foot the $20 million bill. Red light tickets are still being issued, and plans for new government offices are unknown.

I freceived a ticket apparently for making a right turn from a right turn lane while the traffic light was red. Right turns on red are legal in the state of Florida. There was not explanation and the photos clearly sow that I turned from teh right turn lane.

Despite the fact that the City sold the shopping center, the cameras are illegal under state law, and are only legal as a municipal ordinance. Turning right on red is legal under state law, and should not be penalized with a $100.00 fine.

We moved to the area after the inital awareness campaign about the CITY ordinance. We were not given any type of warning that the city enacted an ordinance without informing us. What kind of sense does it make to enforce a law that was never communicated?

Big brother is on the move again. This time in a small municipality where the city council didn't get their way and is now making its citizens and others pay for what was voted down. Maybe its time for the city of Temple Terrace to dissolve and become part of the greater Hillsborough County its surrounded by where somewhat clearer minds prevail. -Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God. - Benjamin Franklin
