Save Eastside Schools. Save The Eastside. Save The Innercity.

There is a plan to close Sam Houston High School; WW White Elementary; Smith Elementary, Herff Elementary; Lamar Elementary, and others. Don't let them rob the Eastside again. We need your help. We must show strong numbers to stop this travesty. Send this to as many  people as you can to address this emergency.
This is about the future of our community.
Please bring 10 people to the SAISD Town Hall meeting being held at Sam Houston High School.  Wednesday September 2nd the press conference begins at 5:30 pm
,

We the undersigned concerned citizens of San Antonio oppose any plan before the San Antonio Independent School District that would do further deteriorate innercity neighborhoods and the Eastside community in particular.  We oppose any efforts that leave our community void of a state of the art high school.

We are tired of the continual disregard of the Eastside taxpayer base, which pays a disproportionate amount of the taxes going to SAISD by our elected officials.  For too the Eastside in particular has been robbed and overlooked for opportunities that add value to our neighborhoods through infrastructure and economic development.  We are San Antonio citizens who care and we demand that we get equal care and attention as our counterparts of town get.

We oppose the passing of any plan that would strip from the Innercity, the Eastside community, and its valued youth the right to determine:

  • The closure of Sam Houston and any effort that leaves our community void of a state of the art High School
  • We refuse the unnecessary bussing of our children to schools outside of their communities
  • We refuse the disregard of our community tax dollars; we deserve to determine that those dollars circulate within our community and impact our own communities, youth, and our future destiny in the development of San Antonio
  • We refuse to allow the continued robbing of our community of opportunities to attract new residents and businesses

Therefore, we demand:

  • That our school board vote against any plan that strips the Eastside of a state of the art High School
  • That our community get fair representation in all plans impacting the school planning through committee and governance opportunities
  • That School Board work with us -- rather than against us -- in addressing education costs, while at the same time improving the quality of the education system in  our Eastside communities
  • That the School Board work with the community to institutionalize a process for ensuring innercity development and partnerships with City leaders  and Eastside businesses so that get a long term solution to decreasing enrollment and tax base
