Save the Portland Beavers

Save the Portland Beavers

Target:

This petition will prove to Merritt Paulson and the City of Portland that we do NOT want the Beavers to move? The Beavers have been a part of the City of Portland and the Pacific Coast League (PCL) since their inception in 1903. Portland is one of two PCL charter cities to still retain a team. Please forward this to all your friends and family. Let's keep the Beavers in Portland, and keep their history alive.

We the undersigned feel that Portland, OR has a wonderful and rich history with the Pacific Coast League and the sport of baseball. Moving this team out of the Portland Metro Area would be a terrible mistake. You already have a loyal following of fans here and we eagerly await each new season. Portland has one of the largest untapped fan bases, which is larger than some cities with MLB teams.

If PGE Park is to become a MLS only stadium, then it is worth your wild to find another spot for the Beavers to play within this great city of ours. Sites such as the Collesium, the Water Bureau Land, Blanchard Education Service Center or Central Eastside Industrial District are great locations, and I'm sure there are a few more viable spots.

Please keep Portland's rich baseball history alive for future generations by keeping the Beavers in Portland.

Why mess with a good thing? PGE Park is a beautiful, classic, BASEBALL stadium. And one of the best things about going to a game there is that it's a great way to start a night in the city - with everything that the city offers within walking distance for after the game. I love going to Beavers games in PGE Park. But chances are slim I'd trek out to Beaverton or Hillsboro to see them.

The Beavers need to be in Portland; PGE, Coliseum site, or other central city. The Timbers should be in the suburbs, with their fan base. Why not get some Nike money and build Nike stadium in Beaverton. Asking Portland taxpayers to subsidize you, Mr. Paulson, when we are giving up city jobs and services due to budget shortfalls, is not good citizenship. Your family fortune can surely make the whole investment, and reap the returns on it, if it is such a good one.

Portland is a minor league town and that's OK. The Beavers are fine and PGE Park is great as a baseball park in a great location having had a very nice remodeling only a few years ago. Leave minor league soccer at PGE Park or let the major league soccer fans find and finance a new park wherever they are wanted. Who wants a soccer stadium rather than a baseball stadium in the middle of town? Let's do a region wide vote. Isn't Portland weird enough? But I guess Portland's motto is "If it works, fix it!", like moving teams, renaming streets, filtering clean water, etc.

Huge mistake, to not keep the Beavs in Portland. If they go to the burbs, it's your loss!

I think it should remain where it is. Soccor should not take away the home of a very historic team.

Attending Beavers games is part of what it means to be a native Portlander. The thought of them leaving yet again is just heart-breaking. I think MLS is a great opportunity for Portland, but I will never understand why city officials allowed baseball to bear the brunt of bringing another major league sport to our fair city. I still like the idea of a stadium in the Rose Quarter on the MAX line.

the beavers are a portland tradition and do need to stay in portland. it is bad enough they are being forced out of pge park.

Mr.Merritt Paulson, I have been going to the Civic Stadium(PGE Park) since the late 1950's to see the Portland Beavers. The stadium should remain their home, as well as the City of Portland. But since the city has made their descision to 'boot' the Beaver, they need a new 'home'. It should be near OMSI, as was proposed by someone else, or at the Portland Meadows site. There is talk about Beaverton, but the Beavers belong in Portland. I live in Gresham, and would find it hard to drive to Beaverton to attend a game. Soccer should go to the west side, not baseball. Keep the Beavers in Portland and PGE Park.. Respectfully, Charles Baumann

Leave the Beavers downtown right where they belong, bringing fans and life to downtown with 72 home dates a year. Soccer has only 15 home dates a year, why should we turn PGE Park into a mausoleum? I will never attend a soccer game!

Wherever the stadium is built, it needs to be an attractive and fun facility that people look forward to visiting. Building a mediocre ballpark on the cheap would be a waste of effort and funds in the long term.

I agree with Jim, I would like to see the Beavers stay at PGE Park. Like many others I will not attend soccer games.

Missed out on the Twins affiliate when I lived out there, but AAA baseball would have been great to see over single A ball.

Please keep Beavers in Portland. MC site was best. In fact PGE is awesome baseball facility. Why aren't we looking for a place to build a soccer stadium and keep the Beavers in PGE.

Keep the Beavers in Portland proper! In these difficult times, Portland needs it.

I support bringing Major League Soccer to Portland but not if it means moving the Beavers out of Portland. Portland has a rich history of baseball that spans over 100 years and moving the team out of Portland is nothing short of a betrayal to the city and to baseball fans.

I hate that this seems to have turned into an either or deal with soccer. With all due respect to soccer fan, baseball is a much more family friendly sport in Portland. The Timbers Army talks nasty entire games and isn't fit for anyone under 13 to listen to. Give me baseball over soccer. Take out the Seattle and Toronto attendance this season and the MLS is down an average of 29%-they didn't have enough of a fan base to begin with to lose that many fans. The league will fold within 5 years.

My family and I love to attend Beavers games. I was excited when I initially heard the new stadium would be at the Rose Quarter/MC. I was equally disappointed when I heard about Walker Stadium/Lents. I was impressed to hear you stand up to the city of Portland and say NO to the Walker Stadium/Lents plan. You are one of the first to do this and I applaud you for it. I feel strongly that a new stadium needs to have two things for it to be successful in this city. 1.) It must be downtown. I like the Portland Public Schools building (Blanchard), Downtown Post Office Building & Terminal #1. 2.) The new stadium should be designed with the idea for future expansion for a MLB team. A two tier 34,000 seat MLB stadium (similar to Pittsburgh Pirates) would be a perfect size for Portland. Just build the first tier with some suites and have it hold 14,000 - 17,000. Portland is a great city with a great downtown nightlife. A downtown ballpark would benfit from this and keep our hopes of landing a MLB team someday.

The coliseum is not needed any longer and that location would be great for a new ballpark. Another good location would be where the current Portland Public Schools adminstration building just north of the Rose Quarter is. We really need baseball to remain in Portland. I go to many games and there is no better way to spend a spring or summer evening. I have seen many major leaguers play here and it is a great game, a great team, and a great league.
