Save the Holy Headland, Penzance

Target:
secretary of state for the environment
We the undersigned call upon the Secretary of State for the Environment to honour the wishes of the overwhelming majority of townspeople and reject the Route Partnership Scheme proposal to build over and destroy Sandy Cove, the little beach at Battery Rocks, the heart of Penzance .

We contest that since public opinion categorically rejected the scheme when it was first proposed in 2004, the public has consequently been insufficiently consulted and underinformed on this issue to an unacceptable degree.

We ask that instead of being exploited for the sole benefit of a private company, this area of great historical, cultural and natural significance be  conserved intact for the townspeople of Penzance in perpetuity.

This such a beautiful spot which will be ruined if the proposed developments take place.Listen to the voices of local people who have grown with these beautiful places and use them each day.

I disagree with the new passenger terminal, if really required why not use existing buildings in harbour area. Also agree with a "handling bay" at Longrock to minimise traffic in Penzance

Damage to the visual environment of Penzance must stop. The charm of the promenade has been spoiled by the provision of a skateboard park to the west which tourists don`t want to see and now the eastern end is to be similarly spoiled. Let`s stop it!

Dear whom it may concern,I am writing to you as I would like to object to the building of a freight depot lorry park and passenger terminal on Battery Rocks Beach.I find that if this is built the development will obliterate Battery Rocks Beach and seriously harm the landscape, amenity and natural values of the area.  I cant believe that the County Council have failed to listen to the people of Cornwall,  I am not from Cornwall but Mother and sister are from Cornwall and I love Penzance and the harbour, we as children used to come to Cornwall and visit the harbour and the beaches there, and I bring my children now to see the wonderful views of the harbour and I would like to think that many years from now my childrens children will see the harbour, so I am writing to you to strongly object.  Yours faihfully Mrs N Beck

It seems there must be a better way of doing this rather than destroying the heritage of Penzance!

After reading the proposals and counter proposals it is clear that an out of town depot is the only sensible option if Penwith Council continue on there present course it surely can only be that the individuals of the council are getting somthing out of it which is unacceptable and I think it should be investigated are they trying to emulate there brothers in Westminster.

when I traveled down here I spent a lovely day on this area. It would be a disgrace for it to be destroyed and I am a full supporter of this movement and i vastly protest this beautiful location being industrially raped by a concrete opression. i pitty the fool who touches my jewellry. are you gunna let this murder of joyus country side be destroyed? are ya well are ya?

Save what is left of beautiful Penzance. We have Lidl, car parks instead of a sunken garden, falling apart Jewsons - please enhance what could be a stunning prom.

Look up Penzance, or Pen-sans in a cornish dictionary and you'll find the meaning Holy Head. How could anyone dream of destroying the very place where our town's name originates?

Please don't let them concrete over that beach, ruining that fabulous sweeping view across the Bay to Marazion. My daughters, grandaughters and I have explored the rockpools there. I have seen the purple sandpipers on the rocks just where the developers want to put their lorry park. I have seen seals just off those rocks, still where the development will extend to. Even my husband, who is less keen on the birdlife than me, has grown attached to the cormorants which fish just there. It has been such a constant pleasure to see all this wildlife just yards from our house, not to mention the VIEW! You can't permit it to be disrupted/obliterated. Consider the other plans, such as one put forward by the Civic Society, which suggests having all the freight dropped off at the eastern end of town, cutting down on lorry movements through the already congested streets. Please! Andrea Garrihy

So many towns in the UK are becoming characterless and uniform making it difficult to distinguish one from another. This part of Penzance is an important part of what gives the town a unique charm and would be a great loss to the people of the town and would certainly have an adverse effect on the tourist industry.

Any development here would destroy forever a historic part of Penzance - there are better alternatives.Preserve the best bits of the town and keep the necessary commercial developments in less sensitive areas please.

Plans are totally outrageous -there are better alternatives.I grew up in Pz and love to revisit the place - please don't ruin it.Planning consent should most definitely be refused

My family still live in Penzance, and we still visit regularly. This area is lovely for swimming and it would be a great shame to vandalise this area when there are reasonable alternatives.

The development will obliterate Battery Rocks beach and seriously harm the landscape, amenity and natural values of the area.

If Penzance is to have a sustainable future as a vibrant town it needs to protect it's character. Having lost the harbour to an ugly carpark that does nothing to attract visitors, it cannot afford to lose Battery rocks and Sandy cove as well

The development plan will turn an important historical and cultural area into a crappy airport waiting room style building, with very little benefit to Penzance's economy or culture.
# 555:

We must not forget we are dealing with people who appear not to have much knowledge of the area and who could not give a hoot about the people who love to live here, because their sole motivation is MONEY.
# 554:

This proposed development is the work of people who put profit before preservation of our heritage and must be stopped>
# 553:

This is an unbelievably short-sighted scheme which will ruin the historical heart of Penzance.
