Nearly 25% of the Southern Resident Orcas in the Pacific Northwest have died!! Please take action now to save these magnificent creatures!!!
Scientific evidence has demonstrated that orca whales are threatened by the high levels of toxic contamination of their environment and food. It's time to ensure a safe marine habitat for orcas and all marine life. Write to Governor Locke, Office of the Governor, PO Box 40002, Olympia, WA 98504-0002. Demand that the "TOXIC SIX-SIXTY-TWO" (6 toxic sediment waste areas, 62 sites) be cleaned up immediately. Send a copy with a cover letter asking for action to your senators and congressmen.
Please, be a hero to the Orcas.

Spring, 1993. A beautiful female calf is born to Princess Angeline, a member of J-Pod, a southern resident orca pod who was featured in the Free Willy movies. The calf's name is Polaris. Over time, Polaris grows to be a beautiful, spunky you orca with a loyal boyfriend named Keet and a crowd of admirers. But what Polaris doesn't know is that her body is laced with toxins that are slowly killing her form the inside.
This whale is at the age of giving birth to her first calf, but few realize that in doing so she is unknowingly ridding her body of a few of those toxins, which instead pass to her calf. This is how many of these noble creatures have met their demise.
I love Polaris dearly. She has long been my favorite orca in the world, passing the over-rated Shamu and the over-publicied Keiko by miles. Why? I don't know. But do I need an explanation to feel an attatchment to an animal so like us? Intelligent, top of the food chain, caring, loving, former of family bonds.
I am fourteen years old. These whales are some of the only steady, ever-present beings in my life. If Polaris has a calf and it dies, I won't be able to stop myself from questioning how much love there is left in the human race. Please, don't let Polaris or her calf-to-be die of our own carelessness. Do your part. Help save my beautiful whales.

To prove that we are worthy - as a species - to exist, we have to stop this greedy, evil slaughter.
