SAVE THE STREET DOGS OF ALTINKUM, DIDIM, TURKEY

Target:
The Didim Municpality
Sponsored by:

Altinkum, Didim, is a beautiful seaside resort on the Agean coast.

But it has a dark side ... The disappearance recently of many of the street dogs,  Many of which have been known to locals and regular tourists for many years. -  These dogs all have ear tags, which means they have been neutered , So why are they taking them ? We want to know !

Update , The killing continues : http://www.thedidymian.com/news/150/ARTICLE/1714/2008-08-09.html

Despite many outraged people emailing the municiple authorities no one has had a single reply.
Someone is responsible for the removal of these dogs ! We want to know who and why !
It has been said that the dogs were taken into the mountains and left to die of thirst and hunger..... If true, this is unacceptable !

We therefore ask that Altinkum Didim be boycotted as a holiday resort until :

1 -  Those responsible are held accountable under Turkish law.
2 -  No more healthy dogs to be removed or killed in Altinkum, Didim.
3 -  That it be made public as to where the dogs were taken.
4 -  That the neuter and release shelter get full support from the Didim municipality.

If you agree with this, then please sign this petition.

Thank you.

The compassion a country shows for it's animals can represent a broader view of that country's values. I do understand that having packs of roaming, wild dogs is untenable so I strongly urge the government and councils to urgently implement existing legislation (no killing) and move forward with the neutering schemes. Turkey, don't push this matter under the carpet!! Publicise the problem and get all the thousands of visiting dog lovers to help and lend support. Together we can stop these animals suffering.

I expect that the dogs have been 'disappeared' to keep streets clean for tourists; humane laws are obviously needed, but if people have harsh lives, animal welfare may not be a priority for them. Most Governments care most about money, so they need to be shown that visitors to Turkey are appalled by the general treatment of animals. Fair play to all those compassionate people working within Turkey for animals!

I believe this is practically the only TRUE excuse to refuse Turkey from membership (though there are some eastern European countries which have even worse attitudes). I totally support this pressure on the Turkish Government! It is time they stop seeing everything as objects at their disposal. There are way too many street animals. And the cruelty and callousness of the authorities is incredible! They will not listen to their own people's pleas. It is very hard to visit my beautiful country due to the suffering I can't avoid seeing.

I cry for the animals that are suffering inside a barbaric country, it is time the goverment were made aware that we the animal lovers can no longer stand by and let this happen, i want everyone to write to Mr Obama in U.S. and tell him about this, as he is under a wrond impression about Turkey.

I went to Didim, Turkey recently (on holiday) and have seen the immense suffering first hand. It is an experience I will never forget, or forgive. There was one very kind Turkish vet who had taken in eleven street cats and cared for every one of them. If every family in Didim looked after just one cat, the problem would be solved and more tourists would be able to enjoy their holiday in Didim instead of being reduced to tears, as I often was during my two weeks. Thank you to the council and people of Didim for such unhappy memories.

a country that needs tourists is sure doing their best to put people off from a holiday, the sooner you know there are millions of animal lovers turning against your country, maybe then you might do the right thing and start protecting them. i would not advise tourists to turkey

All resources must be dedicated to determining exactly what is happening! The global community is outraged and demands an answer! These animals are sentient and experience love, pain, and suffering just as humans do; we have an obligation to protect them with compassion and empathy. Cease any malicious acts or face international boycott!

Why do you find it so hard to show a little kindness to animals through no fault of their own, are not taken care of & unloved. They deserve a little happiness. When they are neutered, why are they disappearing?

hi i was in altinkum in june,in fact i just got back and i was alarmed at the number of pups and dogs on the street, some are supposedly owned but not fed by there owners, i have found it very distressing to see, my husband and i would go out of an evening to feed them and give a drink also. I to do not want to see these dogs come to harm by a humans hands, these poor animals have been treated a nasty blow in life and through no fault of there own been left to fend for themselves in the only way they know how, we are going out again in sept and would like to know more about getting involved more

when you have no brains then you cannot see what idiots you are, because tourists love the animals, and when they know the horrible way you treat them ,no tourists want to visit your country

If you want tourists then treat the animals kindly with shelters, vaccinations, spaying and food, you are a lot of fools and very un-educated
