UPDATE Oct. 08~Mother Arrested For Child Endangerment

http://www.wkbw.com/news/local/30450759.htmlBy Jennifer Stanonis
Watch the story The mother arrested over the weekend for living in a filthy apartment with her young children on Lincoln Place in Lockport, has a connection to a recent case of alleged child neglect. 29 year old Shauniqua Rodriguez was charged with endangering the welfare of a child in the recent case. Sources tell 7 NEWS this is the same mother who use to live at a house on Washburn Street and is part of an ongoing investigation of an incident that happened there about a year ago. Allegedly her little boy was sodomized by a pit bull. The mother was changing the young boy's diaper and briefly left the room, that's when the incident happened.

Bear has been at the shelter since July 10th 2007 confined in a 3x6 foot concrete kennel. There is NO reason to keep Bear locked up any longer. Bear should be released to a rescue where he will receive vet care, exercise and proper treatment and training until the case is closed.

I cannot believe that a county animal control could be so inhumane as to keep this dog caged for more than a year in such a small space. Please release him to a rescue group or family quickly. The whole story sounds unbelievable.

Honestly, this mother is accusing the dog for something he did not do. The story seems to fabricated. And the way the family was living, they seem to be trying to place the blame on the dog rather then getting in trouble herself. This poor dog just needs a loving home. I also feel the mother should have her kids taken away. I dont understand how she still has her child!

It is obvious that the mother is to blame for this crime not the dog. The child should never have been released to her custody or should this helpless dog. Please release Bear to a rescue facility immediately. How unfair to keep him locked up in a small cell for no reason. He is suffering for what this woman has done.

Anyone that knows dogs, know their olfactory senses are intense. A dirty, stinky diaper is quite appetizing to many dogs. Just today, one of my dogs licked and chewed through my mattress pad to get to menstrual accident. Dogs will mount other dogs and people sometimes for sexual reasons, sometimes for dominate reasons. This animal has not hurt the child, other people or other animals. Left in confinement, he will surely go mad from the confines in prison. His behaviour will not be able to be honestly assessed. He should be transferred to a reputable rescue group/foster home until this case is decided. Shame on the Mother for letting her family live in filthy conditions and leaving her child unattended. That's Mothering 101 and common sense. I don't have to see the dog to know he's innocent or the Mother to know she's guilty and likely out of her mind. She just wants to get rid of her dog and sounds like she wants a lot of attention.

Bear needs to be released to a rescue and taken out of confinement. It's not fair to an animal to be caged whent he human is at fault.

I am a pitbull owner myself and know that they are kind loveing caring animals that learn what we teach them. I also believe that bear should be let go to a rescue where he can get the attention and care that he needs. I also dont understand why a dog is being held like this and there we not bite marks on the little boy I think that the monther sould be the one being held and questioned.

I have never heard of such a thing as a dog sodomizing a child. Sounds like an abuse case all around. The woman should have her children taken away and her dog allowed to be released to a rescue were he can be properly evaluated and placed withthe apprpriate family. Lets not forget that pitbulls are one of the most stable breeds and are well known for being outstanding with children. There are always exceptions to the rule, but in this case Bear deserves a second chance

How ridiculous for the authorities to seize this dog on those charges. The poor dog was probably trying to clean the kid up - a dogs natural instinct to lick. The mother must be a true whack - and because of that the dog has been punished. Shame on whomever has thrown this dog in a jail cell and literally ignored.

I am a student enrolled in a Vet Tech program. I dont discrimate on any breed. No matter how big or small, a Minnie Yorkie or a Pitbull. Would this story be the case if it was a black lab? Did I mention I am also the mother to a 3 1/2 year pitbull. She is the love of my life. Remember, animals have feelings too. It sad to think we decide the fate of so many non-human living things because they can comply with our human rules. Think about it...you learn best from what you see. Dont blame Bear, blame his owner.

If the dog realy did what he is being accused of then the ONLY people to blame here are the adults in that household, who I'm pretty sure are the ones who have trained that dog to perform the act he did! This poor dog has suffered ENOUGH being locked in a cage 24/7 for over a year!

This is ridiculous. This dog was taught this behavior by this adults and now he is being punished for what he was taught to do. Punish the adults not the dog. And why was a little boy naked all by himself in a room with the dog hmmmm.... makes you think. No dog would do this unless taught by a human. Free poor bear and let him live a happy life with someone that loves him.

1st I would like to say that animals do have a higher sex drive than humans, it is known and accepted until animal behavior isn't what our individual approval says is right. We as humans have to take responsibility for our animals that we want or we wouldn't have. I have had at least one dog everyday for 35 yrs of my life and they do not act different than what I have taught them but not ever would I leave my daughter as an infant lying ( naked or clothed ) for them to make an animal like behavioral act in any way, shape, or form. The dog obviously did not have bad intentions or he would have bit or harmed him otherwise. As well a dog does not have a sexual drive for penetrating a butt. Normally there would be some smell that creates the sex drive and never in my 35 yrs have seen any of my male dogs interested in humping my rear end. The dog should not be killed for something that sounds taught but obviousl;y the dog should have temporment and other psychological testing and then adopted to one of the many interested individuals.

Please, for God's sake, wake up and stop the cruelty. Stop being so numb and insensitive to another being's pain. RELEASE THIS POOR DOG TO AN APPROVED DOG RESCUE! There is enough cruelty in this world. Give one little beacon of hope that mankind can be responsible and humane towards speechless beings. You might be surprised to find that your kindness spills over into also helping speechless children. Children from abusive environments.

This is a ridiculous accusation!!! How can intelligent judges and law enforcement officers even believe this story!!!! This poor dog should NOT be locked up now...nor should he have been for the past year. Where the heck was the young boy left laying when the Mom left the room?! Why would she leave him unattended, other than safely sleeping in a crib? Is this mother doing weird things and taught the dog to do such an act? Otherwise, this dog would not have done this! Totally bizarre that officials believe this lady and locked up the dog!!!

Yet another example of "animal abuse", as well as child endangerment: This hapless companion animal is not responsible for the negligent actions of the mother in question, and most CERTAINLY does not deserve the "ultimate sanction" - euthanization - but rather ... like the children involved - should be removed from further damage and placed in safety with a loving family, too.. where HIS needs and future development can be assured, in an environment safe from the neglect and "abuse" that he, too, suffered at the hands of this miscreant. Please place him in foster care or adoption, and do NOT punish yet another innocent victim! These "family" members - outraged at this innocent creature's behavior (and - apparently NOT equally incensed at the neglect perpetrated by "one of their own") are reacting over-emotionally in calling for his destruction.. and in the process are overtly trying to divert attention and deflect responsibility from the true deviant here - this negligent parent... unqualified or ill-equipped to care for EITHER a pet OR a child! Do the right thing: Free this loving companion animal AND these children, and give them all the chance to flourish in a safe, protective environment!

I don't believe this story for a minute. I think Shauniqua Rodriguez needs a psychiatric evaluation a.s.a.p. It would also be interesting to know who was in the residence around the time the alleged assault took place. I also wonder if there have been any police or social services visits to the family. She may be covering for a boyfriend or relative. How sad for both the alleged victims, both human and animal.

I never heard of a case like this. The dog clearly should not be confined without affection and exercise for a day, let alone over a year! Please take pity on this poor animal and give him a chance at a proper life away from what was a negligent home. Stop punishing dogs for the ignorance and neglect of humans!
