Say No to Oil Drilling in Florida's Coastal Waters

Say No to Oil Drilling in Florida's Coastal Waters

Target:
U.S Senate and U.S Representative
Sponsored by:
A secretive group of Texas oilmen is greasing the Legislature to open Floridas coastline to oil rigs, pipelines, storage tanks and processing.  Florida has long banned oil leases in state waters.  Now, armed with scores of lobbyists and barrels of political money, the oilmen have persuaded some state legislators to go along with their plans to open our coastal waters for oil and gas production.
The threat to Florida's beautiful beaches, seagrass beds and coral reefs cannot be overstated.  If the drillers get their way our coastal environment will give way to the largest industrial assault outside the third world because we have no rules in place to guard against the environmental impacts of extracting crude oil from the beneath our coastal waterways.

Florida's coasts and coastal economy are too valuable to sacrifice for the limited benefits that may come from oil drilling. Proponents of drilling claim that there will be new state revenue, lower gas prices, and energy independence. They are wrong on every count, yet some legislative leaders seem bent on pushing this proposal without careful consideration of all the facts and all the risks associated with oil and natural gas drilling.
Please take a stand on behalf of our coastal residents and business owners who depend on tourism and clean water.Thank you for listening.

The oil companys need to stick to the exploration of the areas they already have and stop being so greedy. The risks to our reefs and marine life are just to great.

By forcing use of natural gas and alternative energies like solar and wind, we can keep our waters clean for generations to come.

Studies show that this will not bring down the price of gas at the pump as politicians have claimed. This is a big oil money venture at the expense of our clean water and beaches.

There has been enough destruction of our coastlines to last life times into our children's and grandchildren's futures. Algae blooms thanks to effluent and nitrogen run-offs from over-development and the dead-zone in the Gulf, along with the death of our coral reefs. are just a few examples. Leave our waters alone. D. Karably, St. Augustine, FL

Until we can manage mother nature better, and mankind better than that, we needn't fool ourselves into believing we can manage millions of gallons of oil being pumped from the ocean floor. Florida has been under siege from mankind for far too long without a care in the world from us upright animals.

I cried the day tarballs rolled onto the shores of our beloved Gulf of Mexico beach. The hotel generously offered special wipes to clean the sticky mess from our feet!
