Secure Justice for Rape Victims

After pleading guilty to rape and sexual assault, Tony Simmons, a juvenile counselor, was sentenced to ten years probation with absolutely no jail time by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Cassandra Mullen.

We are extremely disappointed with the recent sentencing of Tony Simmons, a juvenile counselor who pled guilty to rape and sexual assault in your court room.

Simmons' sentence does not nearly reflect the severity of his crime. As a city employee and juvenile counselor it was Simmons' job to help troubled teens -- a responsibility he took full advantage of in his position of authority. Instead of protecting the teenagers passing through the juvenile justice system, he used his position to violate and take advantage of them in a most vulnerable way.

We strongly urge you to consider a stronger sentence for this convicted rapist. His complete abuse of the juvenile justice system and the troubled teens who the system is supposed to serve deserves greater consequences than a probation sentence.

The girls he violated deserve better too. Help them find justice by properly punishing the man who raped and sexually assaulted them.
