Severe Punishment for Hit & Run Driver; Causing Death

Severe Punishment for Hit & Run Driver; Causing Death

Target:
South Carolina Judicial System/ US Judicial System

This is a petition asking for signatures to place before the judge. In this we sincerely ask the judge to not accept a plea bargain for Karen L Sims of 1372 SMITHWOODS LANE HICKORY GROVE SC born 09-05-1972. Case number J167365. Charge code 2463 -Charge description Traffic / Hit and run, duties of driver involved in accident with death.

Firstly we ask that the presiding judge NOT accept a plea bargain, and we request that she be tried by a jury of her peers.

On the 10th of January, 2009, two days after his 19th birthday, Karen Sims over Richard King, after leaving a football party. After running over the teen, she and her husband who was traveling with her in another vehicle got out and looked at the young man, lying mortally wounded in the middle of the rural, country road. They decided to leave him lying there; not calling for any medical assistance for him.

Karen Sims and her husband then went to another party.  Never once did Karen pick up the phone to call for help or for him, or turn herself in. She had no idea how long it would be before someone came along and found him.

Richard King lived for a while and died in the ambulance not far from the hospital. Those precious minutes that passed before someone came along and found him could have meant life or death for the young athlete, son, brother and friend.

This kind of thing has to be stopped. People need to know that they cannot get away with doing things like this. So please let's stand up as a community and say we will not take this any longer. Let's make an example out of this woman, and put her behind bars where she belongs for a long time. Let's get justice for Richard King and stop something like this from happening to someone else!

This petition is asking the judge to make an example out of Karen Sims and that she receive the maximum punishment that the law allows for the crime she committed against Richard Scott King.

On January 10th 2009, Karen Sims ran over Richard, She and her husband, who was traveling with her in another vehicle, admitted they both got out of their vehicles and looked at Richard lying dying in the middle of the road before they got back into their cars and fled the scene. Leaving him on a lonely road alone, with no cares when someone might come along and find him.

After running over Richard, Karen allegedly went to another football party. Neither she nor her husband ever bothered to call the police to try to get help for this young man.

Richard a nineteen year old senior, football player, family member and friend died almost an hour later on his way to the hospital.

She was out the next day only having paid three thousand dollars to get out. She got her drivers License and the car that she killed Richard with back within two days. She has since fixed the vehicle (Because she hit Richard so hard that it busted her radiator, bent the frame on her car, and busted out a wheel well)

To this day, she STILL drives the car that she killed Richard in.

Who's loved one will she run over and kill next?

This has got to stop!!

York student killed in wreck remembered as great friend and teammateClassmates attend ceremony in football stadium; funeral WednesdayBy Gene Graham - The Enquirer-Herald
YORK -- More than 300 people watched a single dove soar above the football stadium at York Comprehensive High School, just hours after senior Richard Scott King was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident.

The sudden loss of the 19-year-old teammate, classmate, student and friend left many in this Western York County town stunned and at a loss for words on Monday.

"We're taking it pretty hard," said senior Kevin Susigan, King's longtime friend and teammate on the Cougar football team. "The only time Richard missed school was when he was out sick. It seems like he's out of school sick. It's hard to believe.

"I could talk to him about anything. If you were down about something, he would cheer you up."

Early Sunday morning, police arrested Karen Sims, 36, of Hickory Grove, and charged her with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death, according to the Highway Patrol.

Susigan and fellow senior teammate Taylor McSwain will be among the pallbearers at 3 p.m. Wednesday when King is remembered at a funeral service at Hillcrest Baptist Church, with a burial following at Lakeview Cemetery.

"He was a great teammate," McSwain said of his fallen teammate. "Everybody I know liked being around him."

Cougars head football coach John Barrett described the loss of King as "devastating."

"Richard was a real good football player and a whole lot better person," Barrett said. "I am a better person for being around Richard. He taught me more than I taught him."

Upon hearing the news over the weekend, members of the football team began text-messaging each other to see what could be done in remembrance of their friend.

Within hours on Sunday afternoon, Athletics Director Steve Boyd said, more than 300 people -- teammates, family, friends, school friends -- had gathered at the school's football stadium.

"They released a dove as a symbol of love," Boyd said. "There are no words to express the loss to the school, team, athletic department and community."

Barrett recalled the day two summers ago when King rededicated his life to Christ at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp.

"Richard was a special young man," Barrett said. "He crossed all kinds of barriers."

Principal Diane Howell said support staff were on hand at the school Monday to assist grieving students.

"Counselors from our school and others, teachers, coaches and the technology staff all pitched in," Howell said. "We also had ministers present and on call and members of the district staff willing to help."

The funeral was attended by around 3,000 mourners. This young man touched so many lives in such a wonderful way that everyone was awestruck at the loss of such a wonderful person.

What kind of world do we live in, when a human being is lying in the road horribly injured and two adults just walk off and leave him there to die???????? They both need to be taught a lesson and I hope our judicial system will do just that!!!!

This loving christian family deserves justice. This woman didn't just kill thier son, she rocked the faith of an entire family. She hurt a community that lovd this young man very much. Please dont.accept this plea for it will hurt this family and an entire community all over again. Please rule in a way that this boy may rest in peace and this family can be able to sleep at night knowing that the person that took thier son has felt the fullpunishment for her actions. Set the example for this community that these actions will be punished severly so that this NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN to another family. This boy was greatly loved and forever wiil be greatly missed. For once be the one who restores our faith in the justice system. may God be with you in your ruling and be sure god is waiting for your ruling and justice in this case. THANK YOU MICHAEL THOMPSON

I to have been there. What a Horrible tragic thing to happen to anyone's child. I watched one of my best friends get hit by a hit and run driver while walking across the street to meet me after school one day. She lay in the street bleeding to death. Her killer still has never been caught. My prayers and toughts go out to all of those who share this grief, and may you find comfort in God's plan that these people Will answer to their maker someday. God Bless

No plea bargain!!! She could have called for help but chose to leave him there to die. Those few minutes could have saved his life. We will never know now because she walked away and took his life.

My son Michael 21 was killed by a hit and run Semi-driver in Belingham WA and as of yet the driver hasn't been found. To top it off a second car ran him over left and then came back. Of course that driver has never contacted us even to say how sorry he was. After researching all these hit and run accidents throughout our country the laws need to get tougher. The victim nor his family should have to suffer because of a drivers negligence.

As a victim of a hit and run driver, I was fortunate to be able to walk away from the wreck. However, I am angered by the fact that anyone would leave another to die alone on the side of a road. These degenerates need to be locked up forever.

This story saddens me and sickens my heart. Please do not let these cold hearted people enter a plea; they should pay to the full extent of the law for what they have done. Give Richard justice!

Unfortunately, this sounds all too familiar to me, as it does to so many victims and their families. There will always be ignorant people doing things like this, but accepting a plea will only mean that this crime is negotiable. People do panic and make wrong decisions sometimes, but to be able to continue on to another "party" after seriously injuring someone makes it cold and senseless.

I've never had the fortune of meeting Richard, but I've heard alot about him from a dear friend of his, and since then I've read up on everything I can find about him. And I guess God just needed his angel back home with Him. Though I didn't get to meet him, I still want to sign this petition in his memory. May you rest in peace Richard Scott King.

I was a classmate, team mate, and friend of Richards for many years. I have never been the same person I was before Richard died ever since the day i found out he had been taken to heaven. Please help get my best friend the justice he deserves by putting the one responsible for it behind bars for the maximum amount of time she can be put there. Thank You and God Bless

THIS IS THE MOST CLEAR CASE OF SELFISHNESS AND DEPRAVED INDIFFERENCE SINCE CONGRESS DENIED US HEALTH CARE REFORM. THIS WOMEN SHOULD GO TO JAIL AND SO SHOULD HER HUSBAND, HER ACCOMPLIS. THIS IS OUTRAGIOUS THAT SHE COULD GO FREE OR NOT DO SERIOUS TIME IN JAIL, THAT BOY HAD A LIFE, SHE TOOK IT AND THEN LEFT HIM TO SUFFER, THAT'S HORRIBLE. SHE BELONGS IN JAIL SO DOES HER HUSBAND! ANY JUDGE WHO ALLOWS A PLEA BARGAN SHOULD NOT BE A JUDGE ANY MORE, ANY WHERE.

Anyone committing a crime(including HIT and RUN)should be served full sentencing for the crime without plea bargaining.Obviously there was no compassion or remorse felt on the drivers part.Whether it was a car or gun,she killed another being and should be tryed for the deed.
