2.5 million people worldwide are victims of a spinal cord injury, with well over 130,000 new cases added every year. Loss of the use of limbs, control of bowel/bladder, lack of sexual function, the inability to breathe plus untreatable neuropathic pain, spasticity and the threat of infection, make life a battle for survival. Not just a physical and psychological battle, but a financial battle too with a lifetime estimate between $438,000 - $1,350,000 per individual depending on level of injury.
Enough Waiting Science is ready to move this mountain of paralysis. It has proven that a damaged cord can be regenerated. But without sufficient funding it cannot deliver a cure. Action We need you to urge your President, your Government leaders and their respective health legislators to fund spinal cord research and make paralysis a curable condition.

There is something that everyone can do today to stop the devastation caused by spinal cord injury. Prominent researchers have proven that a damaged spinal cord can now be regenerated. A cure is imminent. Investment in continuing this research and taking it to clinical trials will result in reversing paralysis in those millions already injured, and save those in the future from ever having to suffer such a fate. This vital work of getting the research from lab to clinic will also benefit those suffering from many other neurodegenerative conditions as well as diabetes, cancer, multiple sclerosis .... the list is long. Each of us lives an illness or accident away from disability. You, the government, have it in your power to change that.
We, the undersigned, urge you to ensure that funding is in place to take valuable cure research from success in the lab to cure in the clinic. Millions will be thankful that you did.
We signed the "Signatures for Spinal Cord Research" petition!

I've been paralyzed now for 23 yrs. I'm 39 now. I'm a C6-C7 quad. Everyday has been a struggle to keep fighting on and striving for hope that someday there will be a cure for paralysis. Well finally THAT day has arrived but without sufficient funding for stem cell research I and others like myself will continue to sit in our wheelchairs and watch life pass before us. Please lets get this done now and stop wasting time!

I have a great uncle, Leo, who has been a paraplegic for a good portion of his life. I've never known him any other way in my 22 years of life. As a little girl, I always loved to see my uncle, even though he couldn't do the things with me that my other family members could. But now that I'm getting older I see what toll this has taken on his life. The fact of the matter is, Leo has a spirit and love for life that not many people I know have. He hasn't given up. He isn't bitter. But he deserves something more. I imagine if my uncle could have taken me fishing, or thrown a softball around with me. What could it have been like for Leo to throw me up on his shoulders and run me around the yard, standing up to hug me when I entered a room.
Leo deserves that. The idea that he has gone without it so long, saddens me to my core. The point is that Leo doesn't need to be able to do those things to make him an amazing uncle and person. But he deserves to have it. Please, help Leo, and the many who are like him experience all of the things that they should be able to in their one lifetime they've been granted.

Hi I am a nursing student and I have a dear friend who is a quadrapalegic. He is the hardest worker I have ever met and he deserves the quality of life that Spinal Cord research could provide. Stem cell research especially embryonic could save millions of lives! Everyone will either have a loved one with a disease or even have a disease at some point in their lives that embryonic stem cell research could help! Think about your loved ones and sign this petition!

Science is ready to move this mountain of paralysis. It has proven that a damaged cord can be regenerated. But without sufficient funding it cannot deliver a cure.
Please, support this research with appropriate funding and help sufferers lead more normal lives.
